AECOM Power is seeking a Compensation & Benefits Manager that can be remote based anywhere in the United States. This position will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer.


  • Design, implement, and manage salary classification and compensation programs.

  • Conduct analysis of compensation and benefits within company.

  • Prepare occupational classifications, job descriptions, and salary scale.

  • Oversee competitive analysis, merit increases and salary structure.

  • Administer and manage employee insurance plans. Oversee retirement savings plans with specific day to day responsibility for US and Canadian matters.

  • Advise employees on state and federal employment regulations, collective agreements, benefits and compensation policies, personnel procedures, and classification programs.

  • Ensure salaries and benefits comply with the current legislation about human rights and pay equity

  • Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of employee benefit programs

  • Analysis and reporting for compensation projects such as new HR policy proposals, competitive analysis, budget projections and accruals.

  • Compiles, analyzes, and develops reports on salary data, market trends and forecasts potential outcomes. Prices all North America roles and maintains North America job tables.

  • Lead and educate employees, managers and HR staff on job evaluation and grading; conduct job analysis to determine appropriate salary level according to compensation guidelines and policy.

  • Develop and document procedures to streamline processes and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements; analyze practices for compliance and recommend changes as needed.

  • Manage employee benefits programs in the US & Canada, including 401(k), medical, dental, prescription, vision, short and long-term disability, life insurance, accidental death, flexible spending, wellness and FMLA.

  • Provide strategic recommendations regarding cost containment and increasing the return on investment in compensation programs and employee benefits given changes in the benefits market and organization demographics.

  • Prepare and maintain accuracy on all employee communications pertaining to benefits for current plans, enrollment, changes, and additional benefits

Level specific responsibilities:

  • Administers Company's employee benefits programs, including health and welfare, income protection, retirement and related programs.

  • Manages the day-to-day benefit operations and assignments.

  • Evaluates operational processes to make recommendations in order to implement the best practices.

  • Works with the Sr Manager of Employee Benefits and benefit vendors to ensure quality services are being provided to employees.

  • Ensures benefits are provided as outlined in the SPD and other service agreements.

  • Resolves benefit issues, including enrollment and eligibility appeals.

  • Supervises benefits staff to ensure that benefits program administration activities are done accurately and on a timely basis:

  • Coordinates and administers group life, health, accident, disability and salary reduction (section 125) plans, etc.

  • Acts as liaison between the Company and various insurance vendors.

  • Makes authoritative decisions and recommendations within the Benefits group.

  • Receives general administrative direction and judgment guidance from the Sr Manager of Employee Benefits.

  • Guides and trains other HR staff as a management expert in benefits area.

  • Mentors HR staff and professional managers.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS plus 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience independently leading the total rewards function is strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of building compensation packages and bonus programs for various departments and seniority levels

  • Experience in managing 401(k), medical, dental, prescription, vision, short and long-term disability, life insurance, accidental death, flexible spending, wellness and FMLA.

  • Excellent understanding of job evaluation and job analysis systems. Good analytical skills

  • Familiarity with labor legislation

  • Strong negotiation, consulting, problem solving and analytical skills; the ability to build solid relationships with the management team, HR team, cross-functional internal partners, and external providers/vendors.

  • Exceptional Excel skills
