Our

Altrincham based Strategic Highways team currently has a vacancy for a

Highway Engineer to support our growth which is underpinned by major highway project opportunities locally, nationally and internationally.

The successful candidate will take responsibility in all aspects of highway design to work on local, national and international schemes. The successful candidates will join AECOM’s established highways business which continues to expand following several major project wins.

Significant schemes which have been delivered by our experienced highways business include the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road, Manchester Metrolink Extensions 3A and 3B, New Tyne Crossing and Qatar Contract 2.

We are currently engaged on a number of interesting and challenging projects both locally and nationally and there are opportunities for the candidates to be involved in a range of work. Our current projects in the UK include the £270m Smart Motorways Programme (SMP) Package 5 (M62 J10-12 & M6 J21a-26), Manchester Metrolink Trafford Park extension, A494/A55/A494 Deeside Corridor (KS2) and the Menai Crossing (KS2). The services offered to our clients include the full range and scope of highways work from inception to completion across all the key discipline areas. This includes feasibility, development and planning, DCO process, preliminary design, detailed design and site supervision.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively undertake project and team activities in line with Company policy;

  • Deliver engineering designs to the required quality standards, budgets and project timescales;

  • Undertake Health & Safety duties, fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design;

  • Undertake technical design of highway drainage systems in accordance with UK standards and best practice including DMRB and MCHW;

  • Contribute to the preparation of Designer’s Risk Assessments;

  • Use computer based techniques including WinDes for drainage design and Autocad for drawing production;

  • Use manual techniques for design where appropriate;

  • Construct 3D models of projects in a BIM environment;

  • Undertake design checks of designs completed by others;

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and clients, using tools for information sharing such as Business Collaborator and ProjectWise;

  • Identify data and information required for project and advise team leader;

  • Supervise graduates and technicians;

  • Contribute to the preparation of fee proposals and client reports;

  • Work within financial and programme constraints, monitoring hours expended against the project budget;

  • Contribute and actively encourage knowledge sharing, innovation and creativity;

  • Complete all required health and safety training, including CSCS qualification;

  • Promote the marketing and cross-selling opportunities of the total AECOM service/ product.

Minimum Requirements

For this role, we are seeking an experienced Highways Engineer with the following attributes:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering;

  • Previous post-graduation experience in highway design in UK;

  • Competent in use of MS Office software;

  • A demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety including CDM;

  • A comprehensive knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges;

  • Willing to undertake occasional periods of secondment to construction sites.

The individual will have proven design experience, delivering to quality, time and budget. They will have experience of working collaboratively as part of a team developing a range of major highway and infrastructure projects. The role will suit a self-motivated individual who is aspiring to take a lead role in delivering high quality projects assisting the Project Manager in the design development of schemes

Preferred Qualifications

Working towards Incorporated/Chartered Engineer status of respective professional institution;

Competent in use of WinDes software;

Site Supervision experience;

A full clean driving licence.

CSCS card holder.
