Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a 3 rd shift Floor Mechanic to support our operations and maintenance team within a million square foot distribution center in Aberdeen, MD!

  • This position works four 10-hour days per week: Wednesday – Saturday, 12-hour shifts.

  • Scheduled hours vary to ensure our team is fully staffed on 2 nd and 3 rd shifts.

The Floor Mechanic is responsible for maintaining industrial conveyor equipment . This position interfaces with multiple levels of the AECOM organization and client representatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to electronically and computer controlled automated equipment, utility equipment, facilities, etc.

  • Understand and interpret maintenance instructions and initiate solutions.

  • Work from and interpret project documents such as maintenance manuals and blueprints, schematics.

  • Coordinate projects requiring subcontract activity.

  • Work safely around electricity up to 480 volts.

  • Coordinate projects/installs, upgrades, and fixes to the system with various vendors.

  • Ensure the facility’s equipment is repaired and maintained in a timely and thorough manner.

  • Communicate and advise conveyor related concerns to fellow employees and management.

  • Use welding equipment.

  • Perform basic leadership skills associated to training and mentoring lower level technicians.

  • Ensure that work orders and monthly PM’s are completed as required.

  • Complete daily work logs with detailed information and maintenance reports in an accurate and timely basis.

  • Anticipate and solve problems.

  • Adhere to business code of conduct and other Company policies and protocols.

  • Maintain professional and courteous customer relations including client, vendor, and internal team at all times.

  • Maintain safety work practices as defined by the Company.

  • Work with minimal supervision or oversight, while still maintaining a high level of quality and safety.

  • Identify and wear appropriate PPE per application.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High School graduate or demonstrated equivalent.

  2. Three years of experience in industrial maintenance, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Information:

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires ability to move heavy objects, such as motors, etc. (may be more than 50 pounds).

  • Requires ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods and frequent bending, twisting, reaching and turning

  • Requires ability to work from heights, ladders and elevated platforms.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of various hand tools.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.

  • Requires keyboard skills and visual activity associated with the use of keyboards and terminals.

  • Some tasks may require repetitive wrist movements.

Special Requirements:

  • Must wear steel-toed safety shoes, safety glasses and gloves as well as any other required PPE.

  • Must be able to respond to emergency alarms.

  • Requires the ability to operate forklifts, power and hand material moving equipment.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one‑on‑one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.

  • Coping with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation; and vibration.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Basic electrical knowledge, sufficient to change motors, fuses, etc.

  2. Basic pneumatic/hydraulic knowledge.

  3. Training/experience in conveyor repair/maintenance includes replacement of rollers, motors and mechanical equipment.

  4. Working knowledge of hand and power tools.

  5. Strong mechanical aptitude.

  6. Plumbing, welding, HVAC, and/or carpentry experience.

  7. Basic computer keyboarding skills for data entry purposes.

  8. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  9. Experience and knowledge of the Rite Aid Distribution Center in Aberdeen.

  10. Availability for overtime, holidays and weekend work as required by critical business demand.
