Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Sr. Systems Safety Engineer for the Fighters & Bombers Directorate (AFLCMC/WW) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), Ohio supporting assigned Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Apply knowledge and experience in System Safety philosophy, policies and procedures to Air Force systems, subsystems, and equipment procurement activities, post award project/program management tasks, and acquisition programs throughout their life cycles.

  • Apply a full range of System Safety philosophy, policies/procedures, to perform a wide range of acquisition management activities in support of the existing and future AFLCMC/WW programs and platforms.

  • Apply an understanding of current Department of Defense (DoD) and Air Force acquisition regulations and standards, guidelines and processes.

  • Support the acquisition program management of full life cycle requirements, subsystems and equipment.

  • Provide support to produce or review technical evaluations/plans; engineering studies, reports and analyses.

  • Provide assistance in risk management, project management, process improvement support, and logistics support.

  • Participate in process improvement activities.

  • Assist in the collection of programmatic inputs from acquisition programs throughout their life cycles.

  • Apply system safety knowledge for developing and coordinating responses to appropriate end users.

  • Analyze equipment for hardware and software deficiencies, make recommendations for hardware and software deficiency corrections, and develop, integrate, and test hardware and software deficiency solutions.

  • Assist the government in the engineering evaluation of prime and subcontractor recommendations for operational and support issues.

  • Assist with establishing, implementing and adhering to life cycle systems engineering processes to ensure operational safety, suitability, and effectiveness compliance is achieved and maintained.

  • Performs system safety management services in support of the acquisition of Government approved system or sub-system production, sustainment, modifications, maintenance, upgrades, and modernization.

  • Provide consistent and reliable guidance to leadership on System Safety matters.

  • Ensure requirements of individual items of equipment, subsystems, and support equipment are integrated and established in such a manner that adequate, complete, and effective safety requirements are met within the constraints imposed by cost, schedule, and performance.

  • Ensure proper tracking and reporting of safety hazards and interface with other technical/management to ensure safety policy, requirements, and objectives are met.

  • Review and evaluate the technical safety content of contractor’s system safety analyses against contractual requirements.

  • Manage the hazard tracking and risk resolution process; evaluate safety hazard analyses, identify safety issues, and recommend corrective action to engineering and program management.

  • Provide guidance and expertise toward planning and organizing System Safety Group meetings; participate at technical interchange meetings, design reviews, and program management reviews to support System Safety Management

  • Provides coordination assistance of all technical activities associated with System Safety Management with respect to:

  • System analysis

  • Development planning

  • Performance assessments

  • Hardware/software integration

  • Acceptance testing

  • Facilities

Minimum Requirements

Candidate shall have a minimum of 10-15 years of experience and an accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

  • Shall be System Safety Trained by successful completion of one of the following training class(es) or equivalent:

  • Web-Based Interactive Safety Environment Learning Management System (WISE), on-line through Naval Ordnance Safety and Security Activity (NOSSA)

  • Systems Safety Management Course (SSM-102), offered on-site by Bastion Technologies

  • System Safety Engineering, offered in-residence or on-site, A-P-T Research, Inc.

  • Practical System Safety (PSS), offered in-residence by the Southern California Safety Institute (SCSI)

  • Must obtain and maintain a government security clearance at the required level.

  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other standard (Customer specified) applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience and training in management of FMS programs desired.
