Job Summary

As a part of our continued growth, our Winnipeg office has an opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer to work in our Buildings + Places business line. Buildings + Places is a vibrant and growing business line that delivers project management, architecture and engineering services for vertical (buildings) construction projects.

In this role the successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the successful design, production, coordination and management of structural building designs

  • Apply advanced engineering techniques to solving engineering design/analysis problems

  • Ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of design calculations and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs

  • Ensure that engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, calculations, analysis) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices

  • Work closely with other business lines, discipline Engineers, Designers and Project Managers as a key team member within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining structural design guidelines

  • Engineering support and supervision to technologists

  • Review of shop drawings for structural adequacy and compliance with structural drawings

  • Carry out business development activities including client liaison, proposal preparation and promotional work

  • Prepare or assist in preparation of engineering fee estimates for bids and proposal on structural engineering

Minimum Requirements

  • University Degree in Civil Engineering (preferably with a structural major)

  • 5+ years relevant experience

  • Current Registration as a Professional Engineer in good standing with a provincial association in Canada

  • Working knowledge of applicable local and national building codes, design standards, engineering criteria and structural engineering software

  • Proficient in STAAD, Autodesk software and other analysis/design software

  • Experience in analysis and design of building structures in structural steel, reinforced concrete, design of water retaining structures (including latest edition of ACI 350), reinforced masonry and wood structures

  • Experience in preparing civil and structural designs for projects that demonstrate ability to deliver and meet various challenges

  • Demonstrated experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering projects with variety in complexity and size/scope

  • Communicate effectively (both verbally and written) with clients and internal team members in the development of designs and specifications of structural building systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 5 years relevant engineering experience in the design of building structures

  • Project management skills/experience

  • Business development/client relations experience
