Position Title Senior Archaeological Consultant

AECOM is seeking a Senior Archaeological Consultant with experience in historic environment assessment, EIA and mitigation design to take forward a broad range of projects through from initial planning to final completion. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established heritage team and to take responsibility for a variety of schemes from mixed-use development to large-scale infrastructure.
The successful candidate will be based in Wimbledon, London, as part of a wider national team of experienced archaeological and built heritage consultants delivering quality projects to time and budget. You will be offered support to expand your experience and develop within a structured, friendly team environment.
AECOM’s heritage team comprises about 25 staff across the UK with specialisms in archaeology, built heritage, historic landscapes and conservation. We work closely with our multi-disciplinary environment teams as well as with architects, conservation engineers and other specialists involved in conservation projects.
We are now looking to enhance and grow our team with individuals with a sound technical background and experience project management who share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.
The team provides services ranging from feasibility studies, historic environment impact assessment, and fieldwork design and management on a wide range of contracts for external and internal facing AECOM business lines.
Our clients are from the private and public sector and our leading UK clients include Highways England, Environment Agency, HCA, HS2, numerous Local Authorities, as well as leading contractors and developers.
Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local and national infrastructure improvements for major clients. A selection of our current and recent projects includes:
A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down Cultural heritage lead;
HS2 Phase 1 enabling works central section – archaeology and built heritage design and management;
Olympic Legacy Cultural and Education District – heritage consultancy;
HS2 Phase 2b – Heritage lead for Lot 2 (Leeds South);
Highways England Cultural Heritage Advisor;
Environment Agency secondments advising on flood alleviation projects;
Impact assessment and mitigation management for several large-scale highways schemes in England and Northern Ireland;
Impact assessments of numerous development types – from minerals to residential.
The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order to:
Research, write and assemble heritage impact assessments;
Develop mitigation strategies and design solutions to reduce historic environment effects from new developments;
Design, procure and manage site works;
Demonstrate experience or understanding of Health and Safety compliance and prepare and review risk assessments;
You will have a flexible approach to supporting the existing team in other locations;
Provide robust and informed advice to clients on heritage matters;
Provide a point of contact internally and externally for existing and new clients and to represent AECOM at multi-disciplinary meetings.
You will have good technical and communication skills and a sound knowledge of UK heritage legislation and policy;
Evidence of ability to work collaboratively within a large team and plan and manage the workload of others;
Ability to manage project inputs, budget and programme;
Driving licence essential;
You will be able to demonstrate experience or understanding of Health and Safety compliance and review and approve risk assessments;
Ability to make judgments based on site survey, analysis of development proposals and to justify conclusions on likely effects and appropriate mitigation.
You will have a relevant degree. You will be a member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA) or eligible to attain membership with AECOM’s support.
