We create comprehensive delivery solutions for water, wastewater and wet weather systems, desalination, water resources, water reuse, tunneling, and community infrastructure through traditional and alternative delivery services such as program management and design-build.

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a Municipal/ Civil Engineering Technician for immediate employment in the Whitby, Ontario office. The successful candidate will have an understanding of civil engineering technology, CAD, GIS and have proven experience in the design of municipal infrastructure. She/he will be expected to work within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. He/she will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done. The successful candidate will be expected to support in the delivery of infrastructure to customers primarily within the municipal water, wastewater and stormwater sector.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Drafting for municipal infrastructure projects, focus on water, wastewater and drainage

  • Working on complex data sets in conjunction with other CAD and GIS technical staff

  • Ensuring overall data quality and integrity

  • Preparing civil drawings

  • Quantity take-offs, cost estimating and design calculations

  • Periodic site inspections

  • Assuring that engineering related issues are promptly relayed to the Project Manager for action and following up to assure timelines of resolution efforts

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 3+ years of experience in CAD design /drafting

  • Experience using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation

  • Ability to work on a variety of engineering projects including civil site development, surface water, and water/wastewater infrastructure

  • Work independently with general guidance, except for complex and unusual situations

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position

  • Must have strong design and computer skills, enjoy self-directed learning, have an enthusiastic and energetic attitude towards solving problems, and take pride in their role in producing high quality deliverables for clients

  • Work effectively in teams under budget and schedule constraints

  • Communicate clearly and provide strong support for design projects involving construction plans

  • Driver’s License and access to personal vehicle required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical or Associate's degree

  • Experience in municipal engineering, road reconstruction and stormwater management facility design

  • Experience using ArcGIS and Bentley InRoads
