Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Intermediate Water Resources Engineer for immediate employment in the Whitby or Ottawa offices. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate a career in design / engineering, specific to water, drainage and stormwater engineering projects. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The incumbent can look forward to supporting AECOM’s water business with a variety of clients including municipal, transportation and agency clients throughout Ontario.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing and/or directing surface water modeling, mapping, and designing of stormwater and flood control structures

  • Performing and/or directing design of stormwater control facilities including: detention/retention ponds and open channels

  • Understanding and researching issues related to water resources that impact individual projects

  • Directing and reviewing documentation of calculations

  • Preparing engineering reports

  • Managing projects and tasks of varying complexity

  • Mentoring junior staff

  • Planning, preparing and reviewing technical specifications according to the contract documents

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field

  • 5 + years of experience including experience overseeing projects and staff

  • Professional Engineer registration required

  • Exhibits in-depth knowledge of surface water modeling, planning and design projects and related technologies

  • Ability to communicate the technical aspects of projects to a wide audience

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as exceptional organizational skills

  • Strong ArcGIS and / or Civil3D skills

  • Strong capability to develop and apply various sanitary and stormwater modeling programs e.g. HEC-RAS, SWMM, SWMHYMO, VISUAL OTTHYMO InfoWorks

  • Sound understanding of the application water resources principles to design

  • Demonstrate the ability to work in local teams as well as the flexibility to work as part of inter-office groups

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineers Ontario registration

  • 2D hydraulic modelling e.g. HEC5, Mike21

  • Previous work experience in a consulting environment in Ontario

  • Business development experience including client relations, proposal preparation, and professional leadership activities

  • Team leadership experience supervising engineers, CAD technicians, surveyors and field inspectors
