AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and hardworking Electrical Engineer for immediate employment in the Whitby, Ontario office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare detailed calculations, drawings, technical specifications, procurement documents, design and installation packages, proposal evaluations, technical reports, cost estimates, detailed analyses and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes

  • Electrical design on multidisciplinary projects, including client relations and team motivation

  • Development of electrical power and distribution design concepts with architects, engineers and owners; Design of lighting, fire alarm, communications systems, in building; Project Management on electrical projects

  • Prepare specifications, contract documents, and prepare engineering progress reports

  • Ensuring design conforms to all applicable codes and client standards

  • Travel to the construction sites to conduct Electrical inspections and prepare reports

  • Technical supervision of junior engineers and technologists incl. mark-ups and review of design and drafting

  • Electrical system commissioning

Typical projects and design tasks could include:

  • Project assignments may include, although not limited to Subway & LRT stations, transit maintenance facilities, parking structures, pump stations, vehicular or rail tunnels, telecommunication facilities, traffic management centers, transit centers or bridge infrastructure

  • Primary and secondary substations

  • Building condition and energy audits and reports

  • Short circuit study and load flow analyses. Arc Flash Hazard Analyses Coordination of protective devices

  • Lightning Protection and Grounding

  • Surge protection

  • Standby power generation and uninterruptible power supplies

  • DC Traction Power Systems

  • Fire alarm and security systems

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible applicable experience including, 5+ years in a Consulting Engineering environment

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario

  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm in design of electrical systems

  • Demonstrated written and verbal English communication skill proficiency effectively communicating complex engineering issues

  • Sound judgment supported by excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Able to work to tight schedules, control project budgets and motivate staff to do the same

  • Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment

  • Must be a good team player and decision maker

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have significant local experience in above mentioned markets with strong ties and background in the local market, Transit authorities and consulting community

  • Experience in supervising Junior staff on a project by project basis

  • Experience with Short Circuit protection co-ordination and Arc Flash studies

  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit

  • Experience with DC Traction Power Systems

  • Some Project Management experience and training
