Position Title Principal Environmental Consultant
United Kingdom - Cumbria
We are looking for an ambitious team player who has a strong ability in business development, work winning and client care, and has a passion for problem solving and development of innovative, cost effective and buildable solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding.
The role will involve supporting work winning and project delivery, as well as the development and growth of the Westlakes office’s reach, technical capability and team expansion. The role will include selling and providing specialist services to major clients.
Candidates will preferably have knowledge and experience of working in the nuclear and power sectors, as well as in related environmental liability management and land quality services. A strong established network of contacts within the region would be advantageous.
You will deliver geoenvironmental, permitting, engineering and/ or radiochemistry services to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget, and must have strong behavioural competencies with respect to client care, staff management, technical leadership, collaborative working, responsibility and independent decision making.
The roleholder will be equally comfortable working on small or major projects, contributing positively as a technical specialist or managing/ directing projects in the power, infrastructure and industrial sectors involving:
• Ground investigations and/or site inspections for geoenvironmental/ radiological purposes.
• Radwaste and non-radwaste characterisation.
• Environmental safety case preparation.
• Impact assessments particularly Article 37 Euratom Treaty submissions, including modelling applications.
• RSA authorisations and RSR/ EPR10 Permitting.
• Technical assessments, interpretative studies and reporting.
• Radiological and other remediation assessment, strategy development and works design.
• Engineering and construction management.
The successful candidate will report to an Associate or Technical Director, and will be expected to work closely with staff from Environmental & Ground Engineering as well as Resources & Industry locally in Cumbria and in other offices throughout the UK.
The successful candidate will be based in AECOM’s office in the Westlakes Science and Technology Park, near Whitehaven, Cumbria.
The role could suit a candidate able to demonstrate strong technical skills and experience of waste characterisation, radiochemistry, engineering, hydrogeology, applied geology and/or geotechnical engineering.
Essential requirements for the successful candidate are:
Technical and professional proficiency with a solid career history and experience in delivering nuclear, power and geoenvironmental projects in a collaborative environment.
Possesses strong problem solving and inter-personal skills. Works closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients.
Experience in business development with new and existing clients and preparation of tenders and fee proposals.
Versatile and highly experienced in pursuing opportunities and managing the delivery of nuclear environmental liability and geoenvironmental projects with strong written and verbal communication skills; in particular, the ability to write concise technical reports is essential.
Licensed to drive a vehicle in the UK.
Willing to travel to other offices and sites within the UK and internationally when required by work demand.
Possesses or is able to obtain the appropriate security clearance.
A track record in or aspirations for supporting the development / management of a technical team.
Experience in one or more of these nuclear/ non-nuclear specialist subject matters would be highly advantageous:
Geotechnical engineering e.g. assessment and design involving slope stabilisation, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks and ground improvement.
Deep geology/ hydrogeology.
Mining and/ or mining legacy management.
Waste management/ handling.
Wastewater/ leachate/ mine water management and treatment.
Numeracy in and experience of using computational modelling and design software for applications related to the above.
Good knowledge of relevant Eurocodes, UK standards and specifications.
• A relevant engineering, geology or science degree.
• A relevant post graduate qualification in the one of the above would be advantageous.
• Chartership or other professional accreditation/ registration with a recognised body.
