AECOM’s Global Support Services (GSS) organization resides within AECOM’s Government business line and is comprised of three divisions — International Development, Operations and Mission Support, and Global Programs. Job Summary

AECOM is actively recruiting for a System Safety Engineer (Deputy Principal for Safety) to provide support to the OHIO Replacement Program Office Ship Design Manager.

Tasking shall include:

  1. Performing a variety of administrative and project management tasks and activities and preparing various reports, schedules, presentations and official NAVY correspondence on Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health (ESOH) subject matter.

  2. Facilitating timely decisions in the review and adjudication of all design products, actions, and written correspondence by the appropriate Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) technical stakeholders and NAVY Field Activities in accordance with requirements to meet commitment completion dates.

  3. Maintaining, coordinating, and revising, as needed, adherence to the OR Joint Safety Schedule with Electric Boat (EB), Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), and United Kingdom Ministry of Defense (UK MoD) stakeholders.

  4. Interfacing with SSP technical branches, NAVSEA, and other external organizations both government and industry to ensure all requirements are met for integration into the overall safety program.

  5. Assisting the Principal for Safety (PFS) in chairing the Common Missile Compartment (CMC) and whole-boat System Safety Working Groups (SSWG). The includes facilitating resolution of issues from EB, SSP, UK MoD, and other NAVSEA stakeholders, as well as ensuring the integration of their safety system efforts.

  6. Coordinating the Subject Matter Expert (SME) technical review of hazard analyses per the Joint Safety Schedule and invoked MIL-STD882E requirements, ensuring safety and environmental hazards receive appropriate review and adjudication.

  7. Identifying and managing risks and developing mitigation plans for projects and tasks on significant problems.

  8. Organizing, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating scientific/engineering data in the recognition and solution of ESOH related engineering problems.

  9. Applying system safety analytical methods and techniques to related scientific disciplines.

  10. Conducting independent research on complex systems to apply safety criteria.

  11. Keeping abreast of changes in scientific knowledge and engineering technology and apply new information to the solution of engineering problems.

  12. Writing weekly reports on significant issues and actions and providing daily commitment updates.

  13. Communicating throughout the organization on a daily basis to ensure integration of systems engineering issues are identified and resolved.

  14. Coordinating with external and internal stakeholders the scheduling and logistics of meetings.

  15. Ensuring compliance with schedules and program milestones to facilitate timely project completion.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field and at least five (5) years of System Safety Engineering experience with knowledge of NAVY shipboard and/or submarine systems.

Other required experience:

Knowledge of DOD acquisition programs.

Detailed knowledge of safety requirements as defined in MIL-STD-882E, as well as Safety, Environmental and Occupational Health (ESOH) requirements as specified in DOD, SECNAV, and NAVSEA instructions.

Knowledge of the NAVY correspondence manual

Knowledge of theoretical and practical engineering principles and techniques.

Knowledge of management concepts and techniques.

Ability to complete PFS training (Web-based Interactive Safety Environment (WISE) Catalog A and B) within negotiated period after reporting.

Active secret clearance required.
