About the Business Line
We deliver creative solutions for building projects for industry, government, commercial and leisure sectors. Our building engineering specialists have expertise in structural and building services engineering, fire engineering, acoustics, facades and seismic design. We embed sustainability principles in every design.
The Building + Places Division of AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Estimator for immediate employment for work in a federal agency’s office in Washington, DC. This position is responsible for activities related to estimating all the elements of project cost, including labor, materials and permanent equipment, supplies, consumables and expenses, and construction equipment rental and operating costs, contingency, escalation and program risk, etc.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Provides estimates for each project phase: conceptual, schematic design, design development and construction documents
Prepare detailed cost estimates via industry accepted methods such as RS Means for small and large projects. Estimates shall be provided in UNIFORMAT II and CSI format
Prepares or assists in the preparation of order-of-magnitude, preliminary, definitive, change orders and check estimates using appropriate methods and techniques
Prepares material, equipment, and labor take-offs
Performs cost comparison analyses between in-house estimates and contractor estimates
Works with Project Managers and other disciplines to evaluate appropriateness of budgets
Utilizes the appropriate company and industry historical data for cost estimates
Prepares project and discipline estimate summaries Basis of Estimate
Establishes and maintains cost databases and product line specific parametric analysis tools
Leads the estimate reconciliation process with the project team
Prepares bid packages, conceptual estimates and analysis of subcontractor bids etc. for projects
Maintains consistent and period communications with other estimators
Prepares and/or coordinates preparation of full project estimates
Please note that this hire will be required to meet client approval.
Bachelor’ degree in engineering, architecture, construction or related discipline
11+ years of relevant work experience
Must have an understanding of construction means, methods, and sequences
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, Requests-for Proposals and contracts
Ability to concentrate in one or more of the estimating disciplines, including architecture, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, civil and structural
Due to the nature of the work, candidate must be a US Citizen
Security clearance of Top Secret or above is required
Ability to use a variety of estimating software a plus, but not required
Ability to generate project construction schedules. Knowledge of MS Project and Primavera
Sustainability, resiliency and/or climate adaptation experience a plus but not a requirement
