Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated Electrical Inspector for immediate employment on the DC Metro Water team.

The Electrical Inspector will be part of a team providing comprehensive construction management services to DC Water on numerous retrofit and rehab projects at the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment plant. This plant is one of the largest wastewater treatment plants in the country; utilizing cutting edge technology to constantly improve the effectiveness of this critical infrastructure component.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide inspection for surveillance of electrical materials during construction, evaluating workmanship and monitoring daily for compliance with the construction contract documents

  • Record construction progress though diaries, daily reports, telephone conversation logs, accident reports and other documentation

  • Monitor, and if necessary, working with the RE reject work that is unsatisfactory, faulty, defective, damaged, or otherwise non-compliant with the construction contract documents

  • Coordinate with the construction contractor, DC Water, utilities, and other agencies to allow the construction contractor to obtain the required electrical permits and approvals

  • Assist the Resident Engineer (RE) in conducting and documenting regular meetings as required with the construction contractors to review schedule update, progress, problems, change orders, safety and other issues

  • Identify violations of accepted safe practices observed in the conduct of the work and see that they are called to the construction contractor's attention and DC Water’s Safety Officer's attention

  • Observe and visually inspect electrical materials, equipment and supplies delivered to the Project site

  • Assist in the development of field testing and acceptance procedures for all new electrical equipment

  • When necessary, assist the RE in conducting negotiations with the construction contractor to finalize Change Order scope, change in contract amount, if required, and impact on contract time

  • Prepare intermediate and final deficiency lists (punch-lists) when appropriate and when requested by the RE and periodically update these lists until all work is complete

  • Participate in final inspection and prepare a written certification documenting the conformance of the completed construction contracts to the approved contract drawings, specifications, addenda and change orders

  • Attend weekly progress meetings for each of the active projects and be prepared to comment upon contractor's progress of work activity and upcoming work plan

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma

  • 5+ years of experience with the means and methods of electrical construction as applied to medium and low voltage electrical equipment, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, grounding systems, process mechanical systems.

  • Must be physically capable of navigating an active wastewater treatment plant construction site

  • Thorough knowledge of NEC, NEMA, NETA standards and codes

  • Individual must possess strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience with MS Word and Excel is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master or Journeyman Electrician License

  • Experience in use of CM14 software is preferred

  • Experience working at water and/or wastewater treatment facility
