Job Summary

AECOM are recruiting a Principal / Senior EC&I Engineer to join our established and ever growing Power & Energy Nuclear unit in the Warrington office.

Our Power & Energy sectors primarily focus is the design, management & supervision of multi-discipline projects on all the major nuclear clients within the UK, with a primary focus on turn-key solutions to projects often including control system design, building services and direct consultancy services.

The position requires an experienced Principal / Senior person who can then apply their skills as an individual or leading a team to deliver projects to the benefit of our Clients. Inherently the projects are multi-disciplinary and may be at any stage in the project life cycle. Our projects range from client consultancy support to multi-million pound complete turn-key solutions.

In addition to Principal / Senior EC&I Engineer duties, the successful candidate will be required to manage a range of multi-disciplinary projects within the Warrington office. Responsibilities will include the client interface, preparation of bids and proposals and then managing the delivery of the projects in accordance with AECOM’s quality, safety and environmental procedures.

Within this role you will also be assisting the EC&I department lead to manage and develop the department’s staff, ongoing projects and future bid work, working closely with clients to develop a strong customer relationship, mentoring and training junior colleagues to meet the high standards we expect.

Key Responsibilities for the role will include:

• EC&I specifications, assessment and justification

• Front End engineering design package generation

• Manage the financial & technical aspects of projects

• Experience of leading EC&I project design team(s)

• Experience of leading multi-disciplinary bid teams

• Project cost, time control and reporting

• Liaison with clients, suppliers and contractors

• Assisting in recruitment activities

• Developing C&I capability and growing the business

• Project management skills

• Risk and quality management

• An appreciation of mechanical systems, process and civil engineering and the aptitude work within a multi-disciplinary team.

• Self-motivated with excellent communication skills

• Willingness and ability to spend short periods of time on customer and supplier sites at various locations within the UK

Minimum Requirements

For this Principal / Senior role we would expect you to be:

  • Qualified to a minimum of HNC level and preferably have a good relevant engineering degree

  • Chartered Engineering or on your way to be

  • Extensive relevant experience and be able to demonstrate sound technical EC&I knowledge and leadership experience

  • Able to meet UK security clearance requirement

Your previous experience will demonstrate competency in a number of the following areas:

  • Manage / Lead / Resourcing staff and projects

  • Lead / Assist in the production of Bid / Estimates

  • Low Voltage Electrical Distribution Design

  • Motor control centre and control panel design

  • Building Service design

  • Lightning protection

  • Safety Instrumented Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers

  • Safety standards (IEC 61508, 61511, 61513), SIL categorisation & safety lifecycle

  • ATEX

  • Availability, Reliability and Maintainability

  • Fault trees, FMEA, HAZOP knowledge

  • Control system design

  • Operational plant design

  • Functional Design Specification, Basis of Design & User Requirement Specification production

  • Document and Drawing Approval

Preferred Qualifications

Experience of the following area's/specialisms will be advantageous;

• A working knowledge of BS7671

• Experience with fire detection systems

• Security systems equipment

• Communications systems design (Ethernet and field bus communications)

• Knowledge of Software development for process control

• Experience of commissioning electrical and control systems

• Experience of maintaining electrical and control systems

• Medium / High Voltage Electrical Distribution Design

Nuclear industry experience is an advantage however, we are principally looking for first class EC&I Engineers who have the capacity to learn and develop their skills for the nuclear industry.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a security vetting process and offers of employment will be subject to relevant security clearance being granted.
