Job Summary

The Transportation Business Line in Illinois is actively seeking a talented Optical Network Engineer for immediate employment in the Chicago area. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in the communications industry. This person will support various projects and pursuits, with a focus on the design, construction and implementation of various network solutions focusing on fiber optics.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a technical advisor for the development of construction documents, including plans, specifications, and estimates

  • Provide management and oversight of staff and / or subconsultants and providers

  • Participate in project and pursuit working meetings to provide technical input

  • Help Prepare/review master plans, designs, estimates, and inspections

  • Investigate new technologies and solutions

  • Construction and field inspection

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science, engineering or related field

  • 8+ years of experience in the communications network industry

  • Knowledge of Service Provider products and services

  • Experience with industry best practices on network architecture and engineering of network and services

  • Must be able to work collaboratively with other interfacing multi-disciplinary team members

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in the communications network industry

  • Masters Degree in an engineering related field

  • Experience with the Illinois Tollway
