Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a 1st shift General Laborer in Wamego, KS! Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday from 6:30 am – 3:00pm; hours may vary based on business demand.

This is an entry-level maintenance position that may perform tasks in both office/industrial maintenance within the facility and outdoor/grounds maintenance including, but not limited to: maintaining trash, operating floor sweeper and/or polisher equipment, and performing general maintenance and housekeeping duties within the facility; maintaining trash and performing minor maintenance of grounds to keep driveways, walkways and parking lots in clean and safe condition; and driving shuttle vehicles to transport personnel and materials around the facility as necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Keeps offices, buildings, plant facilities and other work areas in clean and orderly condition.

  • Assists in the movement and relocation of furniture, equipment, and machinery.

  • Performs line striping and wall painting.

  • Removes trash and scrap, dumps used oils, removes empty material containers, etc.

  • Operates ride-in and walk-behind floor sweepers to maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Sweeps, mops, polishes floors, and cleans furniture.

  • Dusts and polishes woodwork, fixtures, and equipment.

  • Washes windows, walls, and restroom facilities.

  • Keeps premises around company building clean and free of debris.

  • Maintains driveways, parking lots, and sidewalks in appropriate and safe condition.

  • Operates shuttle truck and/or shuttle van to transport site employees and materials to various locations on the campus.

  • Operates various types of fork trucks in an industrial/shop environment around materials and pedestrians.

  • Identifies mechanical/electrical components in need of technical repair and reports needs to management.

  • Maintains adequate stores of cleaning supplies and equipment.

  • Communicates verbally (in person and by phone) and/or uses a personal computer to make written electronic (email) communications with URS and client personnel.

  • Operates a PC with Microsoft Office Suite programs.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Two years of experience performing janitorial or general maintenance work in an industrial, large commercial or logistics environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

  2. Ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

  • This position may require a valid Driver’s License.

  • This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  2. Basic mechanical skills/aptitude.

  3. Experience with grounds keeping tasks.

  4. Experience operating a fork truck.

  5. Experience safely utilizing a wide variety of hand and power tools.

  6. Basic computer skills for data entry, email, etc.

Other Attributes:

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
