Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Fire Safety Engineer or a Mechanical Engineer with an interest in Fire Safety or Protection to join our team in the beautiful Tampa, FL office. We are a global network of experts working with clients, communities and colleagues to develop and implement innovative solutions to the world’s most complex challenges. Worldwide, we design, build, finance, operate and manage projects and programs that unlock opportunities, protect our environment and improve people’s lives. Imagine working on rewarding projects within a diverse culture, and having access to exceptional training and career development opportunities.

Working at AECOM means being part of a global team, working with award-winning professionals across the world.

Each year in the United States alone more than 3,000 people die, thousands are injured, and billions of dollars are lost as a result of fire. As a fire protection engineer with AECOM, you can make a difference by protecting people, property, and the environment from the ravages of fire. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of important projects, ranging from designing a high-profile sports arena, to protecting aircraft hangers and industrial facilities, to designing a fire protection system for an iconic historical structure.

On the job training will be provided for mechanical engineers lacking fire protection design experience. You can expect to perform design/consulting engineering tasks in the areas of fire protection system design and life safety analysis, and provide system design support by working closely with both architecture and MEP disciplines to assure well-coordinated designs. You will learn from a team of experienced fire protection engineers, and will be encouraged to grow through exposure to other design professionals throughout AECOM and our impressive list of clients.

Under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer:

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids

  • Identify risks and design safeguards that aid in preventing, controlling, and mitigating the effects of fires

  • Assist architects, building owners and developers in evaluating buildings' life safety and property protection goals

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

In this role, entry-level technical new hires are eligible to participate in AECOM’s Graduate Development Program (GDP), a 2-year development experience designed to support assimilation into the organization, help with technical development planning toward licensure (or other early technical milestones), and with creating a foundation of knowledge necessary for future career success.

Your rewarding role as a fire protection engineer awaits you at AECOM.
