About the Business Line


We create comprehensive delivery solutions for water, wastewater and wet weather systems, desalination, water resources, water reuse, tunneling, and community infrastructure through traditional and alternative delivery services such as program management and design-build.

Job Summary

Our Civil Infrastructure team are involved in delivering the most exciting city shaping projects for road, rail, ports, airports, water, urban development and defence. Our teams often lead large, complex multi-discipline projects requiring collaboration across AECOM teams in Environment, Buildings & Places, Resources, Power & Industry and Construction Services sectors as well as with specialist teams in civil & structures, planning & advisory, water, ground engineering, asset management, digital engineering, sustainability, and renewable energy.

Due to recent project wins in our Civil Infrastructure business, we are excited to be growing our Water team. We are seeking to make a senior level appointment in Sydney to lead our wastewater treatment practice which includes process and mechanical engineering services in treatment planning, design, commissioning, plant optimisation, operation and maintenance for a growing client base with water, wastewater and recycled water treatment assets.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining a sustainable treatment business through engagement of existing and new clients, technical leadership and project delivery. You will work on complex, large scale projects that deliver great outcomes for our clients. You will be a key member of multi-disciplined engineering, construction and operation teams, collaborate regularly with our national Water leaders to support project pursuit efforts and to help harness the full value of our global expertise to create valued water solutions.

Minimum Requirements

  • Technical pursuit and technical delivery leadership, including quality assurance

  • Creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery, technical and client challenges, determining technical objectives and requirements, and developing standards and guides for technical activities and applications

  • Providing technical risk advice and appropriate risk mitigation measures in AECOMs growing Design – Build – Operate service environment.

  • Staying abreast of industry trends, standards and approaches, and implementing best practices across the team

  • Engaging, and being hands-on, in the technical execution of client assignments through to successful project completion

  • Preparation of technical memoranda, planning studies, design reports, technical specification, functional specification, commissioning plans and O&M plan.

  • Managing client relationships and maintaining regular client contact to solicit feedback on project delivery performance, and taking appropriate actions to remedy issues should they arise

  • Mentoring junior and mid-level level staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, process, civil or environmental engineering, or demonstrate equivalent.

  • At least 15 years post-graduate treatment industry experience, most likely in consulting engineering, with exposure to medium-large and multidisciplinary water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

  • Strong client focus, high level of self-motivation and dedication and the ability to work well in a team environment

  • An appetite for fast-paced major projects, and the ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.

  • A focus in contributing to municipal and industrial wastewater process solutions for both liquid and solid streams, brine management, odour & septicity, resource recovery, cogeneration and energy efficiency solutions.

  • High level of proficiency using first principles, steady state and dynamic wastewater process modelling software for process design and optimisation (Biowin or equivalent)

  • A keen interest in contributing to municipal water treatment, water recycling and desalination solutions.

  • Process planning, capacity assessment, strategic analysis, characterisation analysis, concept and detailed design

  • Experience as commissioning lead and having provided operation optimisation, troubleshooting and maintenance advice for treatment facilities

  • Demonstrated successful experience in project management, design management and technical leadership roles.
