Job Summary

The Senior CAD technician will produce drawings and manage drawing production for projects. Provide training and support to Junior staff. Develop and improve standards with the team. Assist the CAD Manager in the running of the team.

The post of Senior CAD Technician is based in the Swindon office. Working within the Railways operating unit of Aecom W. The individual will be placed within the Civil and Structural Engineering Department.

SUMMARY OF MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational

  • Demonstrate high ability and judgement based on knowledge when preparing drawings.

  • Show ability to apply company standards and suggest improvements where necessary.

  • Ability to estimate resources required to prepare project related drawings.

  • Direct the preparation of drawings for scheme and detailed design.

  • Undertake and lead site visits (may include nights & weekends) and undertake surveys.

  • Work flexibly and contribute effectively to the work and performance of the team

  • Commercial

  • Display understanding of budgets and programmes and operate within them.

  • Ability to produce drawings accurately with a high quality of presentation and understand the importance to the company / client relationship.

  • Assist in the development of more efficient work process’

  • Managerial

  • Manage own time and that of others effectively.

  • Manage running of CAD Department in absence of CAD Manager.

  • Communicate and Report outcome of work promptly and effectively.

  • Contribute to staff development and supervision as appropriate.

  • Apply and use knowledge gained from training to enhance own ability in work environment.

  • Attend courses and show enthusiasm towards CPD.

Minimum Requirements

Experience:

  • At least 6 years experience in civil & structural engineering, preferably with railways related experience.

  • Experience of design & analysis in some of the main structural materials (eg. steel, concrete, masonry, timber).

  • Experience in the production of all types of civil & structural drawings, particularly steelwork and reinforced concrete.

  • Ability to develop drawings from engineering calculations.

  • Conversant with the principles of BS design codes and procedures.

  • Highly experienced in the use of computer aided design/drafting software including MicroStation and AutoCAD.

  • Experienced in 3D Modelling techniques.

  • Knowledge of basic management techniques and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Qualifications:

  • HNC/HND in Civil/Structural Engineering.

  • Grade B at GCSE/O Level or higher in Maths, Physics, English.

  • Grade C at GCSE/O Level or higher in another Science and Humanities.

  • Language qualifications in Spanish and/or French an advantage
