Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Construction Inspector for immediate employment. This position will be based out of the Dallas, TX office, with project work sites located throughout Texas, including Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Midland, and Brownsville. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Act as owner’s representative on-site for the specific trade or area of expertise, to verify compliance to drawings, specifications and approved submittals. Inspector not expected to provide direction to building trades workers. Communication will always be through supervisor (site construction manager) and site superintendent

  • Analyze work plan from Contractors and prepare for site visits and inspections to include monitoring of job hazard analysis reports and safety concerns

  • Conduct daily observation of construction work for compliance with approved contract drawings, specifications, Requests for Information (RFI’s), Change Orders and submittals and shop drawings

  • Support the construction manager reviewing and validating content on the monthly contractor Payment Applications. Revisions include checking schedule of values percent complete and work executed compliance

  • Verify status of planned work in comparison with the daily execution plans

  • Record and document work via daily observation reports noting conditions of non-compliance, job progress, weather conditions and contractor manpower

  • Stop installation of work which is not in compliance

  • Attend Pre-Construction meeting and regular onsite construction meetings

  • Attend early morning, evening or after-hours installations requiring Owner representation. Flexible hours required for construction observations

  • Maintain and organize onsite project documentation

  • Coordinate and monitor testing activities, reports, corrective actions and/or manufacturer’s approvals for installed materials and/or equipment

  • Assist in resolving construction issues

  • Help develop Field Directives and Field Orders to expedite work

  • Coordinate with site stakeholders and end-users for any/all impacts to the facility and neighboring properties

  • Support project close-out activities and verify compliance of data provided by contractor to include O&M Manuals, as-builts drawings, punchlists and warranty walk-through

  • Support site team to make necessary corrections and improvements

  • Interface with various different stakeholders supporting the owner in the execution of the projects

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • 5+ years of practical experience

  • Trade license in State of Texas

  • Experience on vertical construction projects for commercial and institutional construction

  • Experience as team supervisor

  • Must be capable of climbing ladders/scaffolding and working at elevated locations, including building roofs

  • Positions available for electrical inspectors, mechanical/plumbing inspectors, architectural/structural inspectors and civil construction inspectors. When applying indicate trade or area of specialty applying, as well as City/location desired

Preferred Qualifications

  • ICC commercial or residential inspectors preferred

  • Understanding of technical requirements for construction systems, materials and equipment (electrical, mechanical, architectural/structural)

  • Experience representing owners interests as site or trades representative

  • Highly organized with strong analytical skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with project management level personnel

  • Organizational skills with the ability to identify and manage priorities

  • Ability to multi-task and work both in a team and independently

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Knowledge of SWPPP guides and regulations a plus
