Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Operations Coordinator to be employed at a client facility located in Detroit, Michigan. The position is part of an AECOM Managed Traffic Operations Center (TOC), that asses all incoming traffic data and determining, in real-time, the content and priority of traffic reporting. The TOC is the primary point of contact for incident management coordination. The TOC provides information to the traveling public related to current travel conditions, maintain traffic interruption reporting and manage incidents on the Metro-Detroit Freeways from the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) Southeast Transportation Operations Center (SEMTOC)

The position will report to the on-site AECOM project leadership team and the candidate will need to be professional, self-motivated, resourceful and able to successfully execute a wide-range of tasks in a fast-paced environment with ever changing priorities. The appropriately qualified candidate will need to demonstrate an understanding of project coordination within a real-time operations environment.

The general responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • As directed, communicates with client managers, operations/project managers and shift supervisors to provide status updates, ascertain needs within the control room operation and provide solutions to issues

  • Supports the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

  • Prepares special reports and facilitates the internal audit program

  • Assist in the research and development of presentations, technical memos and studies

  • Attend internal and external meetings to represent the Transportation Operations Center

  • Actively reviews operational activities for accuracy and appropriateness, providing guidance and feedback to staff as needed

  • Mentors current staff, supervisors and new hires on operational procedures and policies

  • Assists operations manager with monitoring contract expenditures and ensures the established budget is not exceeded

  • Provide rotational Night/Weekend on-call support

  • Contribute to accurate and timely after-action reports for high-impact incidents

  • Assist with special event planning and setup

  • Work on special assignments, tasks, reports and presentations

  • Effectively supports the recruitment, selection and on-boarding processes for new-hires

  • Will serve as a control room operator when conditions warrant due to staffing shortage or major event

  • Perform other duties as needed by the client and operations manager

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience

  • 3+ years' experience

  • Project coordination experience

  • Microsoft Excel / PowerPoint / Word (intermediate to advanced)

  • Transportation Operations Center experience

  • Incident Management (Incident Command System)

  • A working knowledge of the municipality and area traffic management organizations, including state, metro and local emergency services

  • Emergency Operations Center knowledge and/or experience

  • Valid driver’s License in good standing

  • Must have the ability to work all shifts including: nights, major holidays, weekends, planned/unplanned events

  • Ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure

  • Ability to communicate clearly, organize correspondence, convey urgency and document decisions made to project management

  • Ability to meet rigorous attendance standards

  • Ability to efficiently and effectively speak, read and write on operational topics in the English language

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of self-motivation and resourcefulness

  • Demonstrated ability to develop operational reports, documents, client communication and business related memoranda

  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to a variety of project specific operational policies and protocols

  • Demonstrated ability to professionally communicate with stakeholders regarding operational concerns on roadways in a layperson manner

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

  • Skills test may be administered during interview

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Business Administration, Information Technology or Engineering

  • An intimate knowledge of Metro-Detroit roadways, including their alternate names, the jurisdiction they are located, where the jurisdiction changes and alternate routes when available

  • Microsoft Project / Microsoft SharePoint

  • Experience with data manipulation, management and processing
