Job Summary

The Buildings + Places business line of AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer/Project Manager for its Southfield, MI office to manage multi-discipline architectural and engineering design services. The PM will be responsible for the day to day project and client management for multiple projects from initial planning through construction. This position may include management of teams across business lines, in remote locations, and/or management of subcontractors and may include business development and marketing support for proposals and presentations.

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity

  • Exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment

  • Oversee the work and mentor mechanical engineers and designers

  • Prepare designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and working drawings, and develops details and edits specifications

  • Adapt and modify design features and operational methods to meet a variety of situations

  • Serve as a quality control reviewed

  • Stay current in codes and technologies appropriate to the HVAC/Plumbing disciplines

  • Ensure conformance with standards, established design practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 10+ years of industry-related experience, including at least 3 years of project management experience

  • Related experience in Mechanical HVAC and/or Plumbing Design and the preparation of Construction Documents

  • Registered Professional Engineer in MI or ability to obtain by reciprocity

  • Strong technical knowledge and ability to serve in the role as a Project Manager responsible for a multi-disciplinary team in the development of comprehensive, coordinated construction documents for small to large diverse and complex projects

  • Responsible for both the technical and financial aspects of project success

  • Experience in leading teams of in-house and consultant staff

  • Excellent supervisory skills and ability to communicate with and motivate team members

  • Must be able to supervise staff on multiple projects, provide aggressive management, technical leadership and support to team members, verify that all work is completed as planned and scheduled in compliance with company quality assurance practices

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
