Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Engineer to join our maintenance team at a pharmaceutical complex in South San Francisco, CA! A variety of work schedules is available, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts. On each shift, hours may vary based on business demand.

This position is responsible for providing an advanced level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventative maintenance on facilities and utilities systems and equipment, including but not limited to mechanical equipment, motors, pumps, plumbing and piping, drains, and related equipment .

Effectively communicates with the site management team and the customer to understand requirements, solve complex system issues, and provide solutions to manufacturing problems. Must be self-motivated and demonstrate the strong organizational/time management skills needed to be successful in this role.

The Facilities Maintenance Engineer must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.

Essential Functions:

  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs facility and utilities equipment as necessary.

  • Ensures all appropriate mechanical operations, standards, controls, and specifications, are maintained at a high level of quality. Systems and equipment will include pumps, fans, heat exchangers, valves, etc.

  • Creates and modifies site operations procedures for equipment and recommends facilities reliability improvements.

  • Utilizes strong mechanical skills in order to complete assignments.

  • Ensures all appropriate mechanical operations, standards, controls, and specifications, are maintained at a high level of quality.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.

  • Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems

  • Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.

  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.

  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.

  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment, yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.

  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  2. Five years of experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical building systems and/or plumbing in an industrial or pharmaceutical environment , or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

  3. Qualified applicants offered a position must be able to obtain site specific security access including all applicable background checks.

  4. Qualified applicants must submit to and pass a Tuberculosis test prior to employment, or be medically cleared for Tuberculosis by a medical professional, and be able to maintain annual negative results.

  5. Qualified applicants must pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and be able to successfully complete a fit test for each type of respirator needed for the position or for an approved alternate respirator that provides equal or better protection from identified hazards.

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

  • This position requires a valid Driver’s License.

  • This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Associate’s degree in HVAC, industrial mechanical, industrial electrical, or a related skilled trade.

  2. Experience performing hands-on maintenance and repair of mechanical building systems in a large research and development facility.

  3. Experience providing support for Central Utility Plant (CUP) operations with repairs to plumbing, steam and hot water boilers, air handling units, pumps, compressors, air dryers, and exhaust systems, etc.

  4. Experience programming, troubleshooting and/or repairing HVAC with building automation systems (especially Honeywell/Siemens) in an industrial or research facility environment.

  5. Experience performing pipefitting, welding, fabrication, and millwright related work.

  6. Certified in B.A.S. or Energy Management systems.

Other Attributes:

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
