Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated Roadside Assistance and Maintenance Program (RAM) Supervisor for immediate employment in the Savannah,GA office.

AECOM staff shall provide Coordinated Highway Assistance and Maintenance (CHAMP) Services to support GDOT State Maintenance Office and District Maintenance Offices. Staff shall serve as an extension of GDOT’s State Maintenance Office and Incident Management Unit (H.E.R.O. Unit) providing the District Maintenance Offices and State Traffic Operation Division with real time traffic information, identifying highway deficiencies, assisting stranded motorist, removing debris from roadways and providing local authorities with traffic control on accident scenes.

This position supports higher level CHAMP Program Management, GDOT Maintenance Operations, and State Traffic Management Center Operations, in preparation of data collection, roadway inspections, traffic incident management, scenes assessments and motorist assistance. In this position, you will use a significant amount of decision making and use of judgment, as well as providing instructions and information to others.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise a team of CHAMP Operators and Dispatchers, ensuring that all state, federal, and company’s safety compliance, policy and procedures, quality assurance, customer services are being performed

  • Perform routine route inspections to ensure performance measures are met and provide accountability and oversight of CHAMP operators and dispatchers

  • Meet with GDOT Officials and local authorities to discuss strategies, and best practices for traffic incident management

  • Function as a lead Operator on vacant routes and dispatch positions to ensure adequate coverage, and supervising and training lower level staff

  • Organizes and conducts safety meetings

  • Assist in coordinating Traffic Incident Management Team meetings (TIM TEAMS) for region

  • Perform routine staff, vehicle and equipment inspections per company requirements

  • Ensure all safety guidelines ,policies and procedures are adhered too, to include personal protection equipment

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate(GED)

  • 2+ years of progressive transportation Maintenance/Construction experience for a State Highway Agency; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience

  • Be a minimum of 21 years of age

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security and motor vehicle back ground checks; must also be able to pass yearly criminal and motor vehicle background checks

  • Possess a valid Georgia Class C License and a clean driving record, including no suspension of license in the last 5 years

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and annual screening process per contractual requirements

  • Possess or be able and willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications

  • Must participate in and successfully complete a post-offer and pre-employment fitness for duty questionnaire

  • Working knowledge of the Manual of Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)

  • Working knowledge of basic automotive repair

  • Present clean, well-groomed appearance

  • Demonstrate positive customer service attitude

  • On call 24/7 and Must be willing to respond to after hour call outs

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, moisture, dust, dryness, noise, and automotive-related chemicals (e.g., fuels, coolants, lubricants, etc.); position requires frequent operation of vehicles, lifting of less than 25 pounds, and work around heavy, moving, dangerous equipment; often standing/walking, repetitive bending & stooping, lifting of 25-75 pounds, working with arms above shoulder level, and power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.); occasional work at heights, and work on electrical circuits; rare lifting of greater than 75 pounds, and stair climbing. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role relating to Traffic Incident Management or Roadway Maintenance OR equivalent job related field

  • Experience implementing temporary traffic control devices procedures per the Manual of Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)

  • Working knowledge of basic automotive repair

  • Working knowledge of GDOT policies and procedures

  • Working knowledge with GDOT Asset Management System (GAMS)

  • Basic knowledge with dispatch procedures and the Traffic Management Center functions

  • Demonstrate positive customer service attitude –to co-workers ,internal and external customers

  • Must be able to effectively give clear, decisive directives to others

  • Must be able to respond to after hour call outs

  • Must be able to read and decipher written and oral communications

  • Must be able to make good sound decision in stressful situations

  • Must be able to adapt to change
