Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and hardworking Transportation Engineer for immediate employment. Incumbent will report to the San Jose office, but will physically sit in the District 5 Office, located at 50 Higuera Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. This is temporary position expected to last approximately 6 months.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the preparation of technical engineering and meeting documentation such as memorandums, transmittal letters, project reports, and design exceptions (by utilizing, but not limited to, Microsoft Excel and Word, GIS, and Civil 3D software

  • Complete complex engineering mathematical calculations accurately (by utilizing but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Calculators, and Civil 3D) such as quantities, elevations, and distances. Prepare quality design drawings such as construction details, cross sections, and vertical profiles

  • Perform Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD and Civil 3D software) and manual delineation on different media types for project plans, design drawings, displays, plots, and other mappings; use current drafting guidelines and tolerances for designing

  • Collect and record project field data such as elevations and distances from various survey instruments and other equipment. Research information relating to the project assignment through various records such as appraisal maps, as-built drawings, photo log and various reports and databases

  • Perform general office duties such as preparing memos, letters and reports, filing and organizing both electronic and hardcopy project files, scheduling meetings, faxing documents, making copies, and maintaining the office and field equipment

  • Provide an accurate and timely report of hours worked

  • Complete forms with accuracy such as travel expense claims, accident reports, safety reports, and overtime logs

  • Participate in internal and external teams and committees, and attend meetings such as staff, project and public meetings as related to projects

  • Check accuracy of work

  • Develop, review, and recommend project alternatives

  • Analyze situations accurately and take effective action

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with an emphasis on Transportation

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience

Knowledge of:

  1. Transportation design and construction terminology, methods, and concepts such as horizontal and vertical alignments, structural sections, typical section, traffic operations, hydrology and hydraulics, surveying, maintenance and construction work\

  2. Functions and organization of other work units within the department such as traffic, surveys, right of way, office engineer, and hydraulics

  3. Project management techniques such as monitoring project scope, cost, and milestones/schedules

  4. Conventional and state-of-the-art equipment and computers applicable to office and field office transportation engineering work

Ability to:

  1. Use and/or adjust various office and field equipment such as survey, video, drafting, and reproduction

  2. Perform complex mathematical calculations.

  3. Use GIS and CADD software to design (Civil 3D software), prepare and modify drawings.

  4. Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing at a level required for successful job performance
