Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Technical Coordinator for immediate employment for the San Diego, CA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Acts as overall liaison between the Authority and General Contractors on specialized, multi-disciplined airport construction projects, including job site construction inspection; plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and manages multi-disciplinary work efforts; oversees validation of products and materials ordered for projects to verify their conformance to specifications; monitors and assesses construction performance and records construction activities to ensure compliance with construction documents

  • Communicates effectively with project manager, project sponsor, stakeholders, employees, management, and General Contractor; maintains project documentation through review of Construction Inspectors’ daily status reports; charts progress of contract schedules via regularly scheduled meetings; reviews, ensures utilization of shop drawing submittals; process and ensure incorporation of RFI’s; review contractor change orders and make recommendations for changes; incorporate change orders; facilitates pre-bid, pre-construction, and regularly scheduled construction meetings

  • Assists in training and providing technical expertise and guidance to Construction Inspectors; reviews punch list submitted by the Construction Inspector and verify that items on the punch list have been completed and corrected prior to authorizing substantial completion to General Contractor; during the design phase of the project, provides input related to planning for the construction of the project; works closely with the Safety Manager to facilitate the highest level of safety in and around the work site

  • Perform interdisciplinary and inter program component coordination of Technology Systems with all other related Trades and disciplines. Collaborate with consultant groups in written and oral forms of communication

  • Perform tenant build-out coordination. Collaborate with Tenant’s stakeholder group. Work with Airline technical representative on an on-going basis.

  • Research, analyze and recommend resolutions to Technology Systems of the project

  • Review all design and deliverables, bid packages, contract documents and design changes, submittals, and RFIs related to the Technology System’s coordination and conformance to the airport requirements

  • Support Managers in the Design Review process for all project related deliverables with stakeholders, including but not limited to organizing stakeholder engagement process, review comment process, page turn process and comment reconciliation process.

  • Participate in the weekly design reviews with stakeholders including but not limited to preparing presentations, meeting with designers and contractors and presenting it to stakeholders in collaboration with designers and contractors.

  • Prepare project specific scopes of work for all consultants in collaboration with Authority staff.

  • Participate in project coordination and design review meetings to identify interfaces and coordination requirements

  • Monitor design and construction progress against the project parameters

  • Address Operations and Maintenance issues in the design, including issues that may interfere with operations or maintainability of facilities and utilities.

  • Review design documents for compliance with Airport Authority’s A&E Requirements, guidelines and standards.

  • Review and monitor to ensure RFIs, submittals, and field changes are addressed in a timely manner.

  • Assist with bid package bid review and award recommendation of work authorization packages/GMP

  • Contribute to the advancement of ADC’s goals through commitment to productive collaboration with all stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in a public agency or consulting organization focused on technology systems with advanced technical emphasis on civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical principles and disciplines involved in complex construction projects; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • A California Class C driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority’s vehicle insurance policy.

  • Professional Engineer License or Registered Communication Distribution Design Certification required

Knowledge of:

  • Public works project management principles, modern construction management and practices, processes, systems and techniques.

  • Federal, state and local laws, statutes, codes and regulations regarding public works and facilities construction.

  • Common engineering construction methods.

  • Proper usage of construction materials and equipment; safety requirements and procedures pertaining to work practices.

  • Principles and practices of building information technology systems.

  • Conflict resolution methods and techniques.

  • Public works project funding and budgeting, objective development and work planning/scheduling. Construction Manager

  • Trends, approaches and problem-solving techniques used in construction, engineering, inspection and compliance processes.

  • Information technology and computer capabilities applicable to functional responsibilities.

  • Techniques, equipment and materials used in information technology systems.

  • Modern methods of construction used for technology systems.

Ability to:

  • Interact effectively to problem-solve and partner with General Contractors. Exercise diplomacy, tact and neutrality in dealing with highly sensitive, complex, confidential and sometimes controversial issues and situations.

  • Exercise considerable independent judgment and diplomacy in field conditions during various phases of a complex construction project.

  • Interpret and apply complex rules, regulations, laws and ordinances; exercise sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines. Enforce and interpret regulations with firmness, tact and impartiality.

  • Review and evaluate the work of inspectors, consultants and administrative support staff.

  • Provide assistance on all aspects of assigned tasks within the project, regardless of size or importance of those tasks.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse workforce; coordinate necessary work between several entities.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of Authority management and other staff, contractors, and others encountered in the course of work.

  • Prepare, administer and monitor a project budget and anticipate future budgetary needs.

  • Develop persuasive oral presentations of ideas and recommendations.

  • Exercise sound, independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines.

  • Interact effectively to problem-solve and partner with internal and outside agencies and contractors.

  • Prepare accurate and detailed written material, including staff and administrative reports.

  • Participate in constructability review of construction documents during the design phase.

  • Anticipate and evaluate project risks, and identify mitigating factors.

  • Monitor, track and forecast dates of completion.

  • Complete assigned projects with a minimal level of supervision.

  • Achieve results individually and through others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture and construction management experience in a medium or large airport is preferred.

  • Current registration as a professional engineer or architect with the California Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors or the ability to obtain the license within one year of employment is desirable.
