Position Title Junior Drydock Naval Architect - SWRMC

AECOM is actively seeking a junior Naval architect/engineer to work in Code 241 at SWRMC supporting the dock master. The position is located at SWRMC in San Diego, CA.
Prepare layout and detail drawings for ship overhaul packages encompassing many varied and complex projects in the areas of ship stability, ship structure and arrangements, load handling systems, and testing.
Investigate complex and diverse design problems presented in inspection deficiency reports submitted by production contractors, and Ship’s Force work requests.
Perform troubleshooting and analytical tasks to identify issues and provide technical solutions in the form of memorandums, reports and sketches.
Assist the NAVSEA dry dock certification program at SWRMC, including, but not limited to: review information submitted by area contractors; determine accuracy and completeness of data submitted; Write certification correspondence, to be approved and signed by the Government; track certification status; inspect and evaluate the material condition of contractors dry-docking facilities.
Assist the docking inspector in support of dry-docking evolutions which requires the contractor to: inspect and approve docking block buildups; review and recommend for approval or disapproval any dry-dock stability calculations submitted by contractors; serve as the Government’s on-site technical representative during docking and undocking evolutions of naval ships; provide expertise on dry-dock certification, ship/dry-dock stability, and structural issues with responsibility for providing guidance, instructions, training and technical advice for all aspects of the above technical areas; rack receipt of docking reports prepared by area contractors, review data for accuracy, and distribute to all cognizant activities.
Bachelors Degree in Engineering (marine, mechanical, naval architecture, ocean, or similar) and at least three years technical experience beyond college (counts for four years of technical experience).
Excellent communication and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs.
Some positions may require the ability to investigate, troubleshoot, design solutions to problems in ships structures.
Position may require travel.
Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
- Ideal candidate has experience providing engineering services to U.S. Navy or in shipyards.
