About the Business Line
Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.
AECOM is actively seeking a Compliance Biologist with an emphasis in nesting bird surveys and/or restoration oversight during construction. This position would support numerous compliance projects in the southern California region.
The responsibilities of this position include, but not limited to:
Provide oversight during construction for site preparation/soil stabilization for the purposes of restoration/revegetation, including topsoil salvage, decompaction, and recontouring
Expertise in construction settings, delineating work areas, performing compliance training, problem-solving issues that may arise, and/or applying resource avoidance/minimization measures
Strong writing skills and experience completing survey reports and/or Compliance Monitoring Reports
Excellent verbal communication skills; ability to build consensus across diverse teams; effective client communication and ability to work independently on large multi-disciplinary teams
Perform biological survey sweeps prior to commencement of construction
Interacting with client and agency representatives, as needed, on select projects
Knowledge of major state and federal agencies (e.g., USACE, USFWS, BLM, BOR, CDFW, RWQCB, and CCC) and major regulatory frameworks (e.g., NEPA, CEQA, ESA, CESA, CFGC, CWA and CCA)
Perform fieldwork outdoors in all seasons of the year, consistent with AECOM’s health and safety requirements and procedures
This position will involve predominantly involve task-level management
Responsible for working on projects that involve medium to large complex sites with rough terrain
Some out of town travel may be required
Work independently and as part of a team; be innovative and a problem solver
Bachelor’s Degree in related field (biology, ecology, etc.)
4+ years of experience
Team player with excellent listening skills and diplomacy
Knowledge of native and non-native fauna and experience identifying in field
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
Ability to create and maintain tracking spreadsheets and documents
Ability to work independently, identifying what needs to be accomplished and regularly completing tasks
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Experience in California and southwest U.S. is preferred
General understanding of other environmental compliance resource areas, such as SWPPP, noise, air quality, and/or hazardous materials is not required, but a plus
