Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Geotechnical Engineer for employment in the Salt Lake City, UT office. This position will involve working with a multidisciplinary team of civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, environmental engineers, and geologists all of which work together to conceive, permit, design and construct large projects. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide project management and geotechnical engineering leadership for coal ash projects in Utah and within the Rocky Mountain Area.

  • Provide geotechnical engineering and design support for landfills, mining projects, and power projects.

  • Provide mentoring and leadership to junior engineers.

  • Perform and review geotechnical analyses including slope stability, seepage, settlement, shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, and seismic.

  • Coordinate field exploration, collect samples, analyze data and review geotechnical samples for laboratory testing.

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

  • Prepare technical memoranda and design reports

  • Prepare presentations for projects and proposals.

  • Support business development activities with new and existing clients.

  • Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical engineering or other related field required

  • 10+ years' experience

  • Licensed and/or registration as professional engineer

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as: Excel, Word, gINT, MicroStation, GeoStudio and AutoCAD and/or Civil3D)

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills including technical writing

  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team of civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, environmental engineers, and geologists

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical engineering
