Job Summary

AECOM’s Water Business Unit is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Northern California Area team in Sacramento. The qualified applicant will act as an expert on providing technical leadership in electrical engineering. The incumbent can look forward to leading the electrical planning and design of water and wastewater treatment and conveyance projects. Some of our current projects include: water/wastewater treatment plants, pumps stations, reservoirs, and flow control facilities for all levels of governments and private developments. The Project Engineer will support work and coordinate with other EE and design teams throughout the Western Region.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design control systems based on customer supplied specification

  • Act as a team lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of electrical engineering work

  • Lead and coordinate design activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements

  • Provide expert technical advice on engineering tasks as well as representation of the Company industry-wide.

  • Interfaces and coordinates the electrical design with electrical utilities, project team and client

  • Mentors and trains staff-level electrical engineers

  • Identifies alternatives, evaluates each, and determines appropriate actions to move forward

  • Makes solid and implementable decisions in a timely manner

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • 13+ years of experience in electrical engineering

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer

  • Expert in the design of low and medium voltage power distribution systems, industrial controls, and lighting systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities

  • Expert in the design of point to point conduit and wire systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities

  • Expert in lighting calculations and design of lighting systems

  • Expert in receptacle designs, calculations, and phase balancing

  • Expert in the design of conduit, cable tray, wireway and duct bank point-to-point routing

  • Proficient in the design of telephone/communications systems

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the NFPA 70E, NFPA 101, and NFPA 820

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code

  • Proven team management skills with capability to work with a wide variety of individuals, and have the skills and abilities necessary to lead engineers, designers, and technical and support staff

  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and design for multiple projects

  • Comfortable in conducting internal and external meetings and be a quick-thinker who brings creative and fresh initiatives
