AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Fisheries Biologist for employment in the Sacramento, CA office. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Interpretation of Federal, State, and local environmental regulations

  • Perform assignments requiring application of Federal, State, and local environmental regulations

  • Assist with fisheries field work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level technical team member

  • Biological and environmental monitoring for Federally- and State-listed fish species onboard a dredging boat

  • Applicant must be available and willing to live onboard a large dredging boat for up to one month at a time

  • Perform other related duties assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, soil science, agriculture, geology or any scientific related field)

  • Must be able to identify California fishes to species level, specifically Federally and State-listed species (e.g., Delta Smelt, Longfin Smelt, Chinook Salmon)

  • Must have knowledge of fish ecology and life history strategies

  • Knowledge and experience with fish sampling methods (e.g., beach seining, electrofishing)

  • Must demonstrate the ability to collect representative field samples and data using scientific methods and techniques

  • Must be able to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of data

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License

  • May be occasionally required to work in heat, cold, and wet conditions and navigate in uneven outdoor terrain

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of data collection, data review and preparation of scientific documents

  • Knowledge of CEQA and/or NEPA

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships

  • Experience in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, or other computer programs to enter, summarize, and analyze data

  • Basic knowledge of GIS software and GPS equipment
