Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and hardworking transportation/traffic engineer for immediate employment in the Rocky Hill, CT office. The incumbent should be able to demonstrate an established career in Traffic Engineering, specific to the design of traffic control devices, maintenance of traffic plans, completion of traffic capacity analyses and impact reports, intersection alignment and design.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Support highway, traffic and structures groups, transit and planning group, and other regional AECOM offices

  • Take responsibility, with appropriate supervision, for planning, designing, and overseeing transportation engineering projects; such projects may incorporate other civil engineering disciplines, such as airports, bridges, buildings, drainage systems, stormwater treatment facilities, railroads, roads, and other infrastructure

  • Review regulations and standards necessary to carry out project design and permitting

  • Direct and conduct field data acquisition

  • Prepare design plans, details, specifications and construction documents

  • Use traffic engineering tools such as SYNCHRO and HCS to complete traffic projections and capacity analyses

  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software (AutoCAD and Microstation), computer simulation models and Geographical Information System (GIS) software, to prepare engineering and design analyses and documents

  • Apply QA/QC requirements to own work and work of project team that the individual is responsible for

  • Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, knowledge, and experience

  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license in Connecticut within one year

  • Diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Ability to solve complex issues with limited direction

  • Diversified knowledge of technology, materials, equipment, design concepts and construction techniques

  • Familiarity with utility coordination and local/state permit requirements

  • Familiarity with transportation systems, signal operations, and communications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with CT DOT requirements in the preparation of plans and technical specifications, especially as related to traffic control devices

  • Familiarity with the preparation of scopes, budgets and schedules for assignments

  • Ability to track overall financial performance of task assignment

  • Comfort and ability to interact regularly with clients

  • Advanced skill in writing reports, general communications, and presentations
