Job Summary

The Transportation Business Line of AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, highly talented candidate to join our team as a Bridge Engineer in the Roanoke, Virginia office. The appropriately qualified candidate will be able to demonstrate an established career in structural engineering with a focus on the design, construction and maintenance of bridges.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Mentoring department staff

  • Serving as lead designer on assigned projects

  • Preparation or check bridge design calculations using AASHTO LRFD standards

  • Bridge load ratings and preparation of load rating reports

  • Development of plans and specifications for new bridge design projects and bridge rehabilitation projects

  • Coordination with other project design team members

  • Implementation of corporate quality control standards

  • Construction phase activities including shop drawing review and site visits

  • Bridge and tunnel inspections and preparation of inspection reports

  • Serve as a point of contact to clients on assigned tasks

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years of bridge design experience

  • Professional Engineer’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • NBIS certification

  • Experience with Virginia Department of Transportation projects

  • Experience with design software such as LEAP Bridge, AASHTOware Bridge Rating, Merlin-Dash, and DESCUS

  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or Microstation

  • Ability to immediately work in the United States on a full-time permanent basis
