AECOM's is recruiting for a Senior/ Principal Structural Engineer who will manage/deliver an existing portfolio of MOD and Defence-related projects within the Plymouth Structures Team, including the future docking facilities project in Plymouth's Dockyard. You will be providing design and analysis solutions to civil and building structures.
An experienced Senior/Principal Engineer to join the established structural engineering team in the Plymouth Office.
The successful candidate will be expected to take a lead role on structural engineering design for MOD and Defence-related projects, managing engineers, graduates and technicians as required.
Projects will generally be within the South West Region but some will be located outside the South West region requiring occasional travel to meetings and construction sites.
The post will also involve leading multi-disciplinary engineering, transportation and environmental teams on some projects, potentially drawing on resources in other UK Offices.
Experience of structural engineering design using Eurocodes for of a range of structures in steel and reinforced concrete desirable.
Experience of building inspections desirable.
Experience of design of structures on a nuclear licensed site desirable.
Sound knowledge of construction contracts and commercial awareness
Knowledge of CDM regulations and duties
Desirable: Full, clean driving licence
Take responsibility for the preparation of structural calculations.
Undertake structural analysis and design using both computer & hand techniques.
Contribute to the independent technical review of analyses prepared by others
Assist in the management of project delivery in order to provide clients with results on time and budget
Undertake structural design of structures using current British Standards and Eurocodes
Have a desire to learn new skills and the ability to consider the wider engineering issues related to the work being undertaken
Experienced in use of a commercially available design software packages (e.g. ESA Prima Win, Tekla Building Designer, Tedds)
Some experience in the use of Finite Element Software (eg Lusas, Ansys)
- Ability to communicate using hand drawn sketches.
Able to decide on the level of reliance and accuracy to attach to results of computer analysis and to interpret results into practical engineering solutions
Demonstrable track record in the preparation of designs contributing to the delivery of client projects
Able to work on a number of projects simultaneously
Masters degree in an appropriate Civil or Structural engineering discipline
Bachelors degree (min. 2:1) in an appropriate Civil or Structural engineering discipline
Chartered Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers
