Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a HSE Specialist 2 to be based in our Pittsburgh, PA office.

The HSE Specialist 2 will perform specific environmental and/or safety support services, investigations and analyses and other directed assignments as either a member of a team or under the minimal supervision of more senior personnel. The HSE Specialist 2 is responsible for the oversight of site hazardous and non-hazardous waste operations at NETL-PGH.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain a working knowledge of Federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

  2. Maintain a working knowledge of NETL Directives, Policies, and Procedures.

  3. Notify and coordinate with the client, security and waste handler for all hazardous waste shipments

  4. Notify and coordinate the with client, security and waste handler for all medical waste shipments

  5. Track hazardous, non-hazardous and medical waste manifests. Maintain all original manifests and associated paperwork in secure location

  6. Complete Federal hazardous waste biennial report

  7. Complete quarterly performance indicators for hazardous waste generated

  8. Track all training requirements for employees involved at the chemical handling facility

  9. Complete weekly reports and weekly look ahead reports

  10. Complete waste profiles and associated signatures

  11. Complete all purchase requests for supplies and items used at the chemical handling facility

  12. Provide support and participate in laboratory clean-up operations

  13. Interface with researchers/responsible person(s) concerning waste determination, generation and collection.

  14. Oversee and participate in waste can collections from laboratories and maintenance operations

  15. Oversee and participate in site-wide waste battery collection

  16. Prepare work orders for office and building maintenance

  17. Maintain up to date inventories of all hazardous waste in the designated hazardous waste accumulation areas

  18. Ensure proper labeling and marking of hazardous waste containers in hazardous waste accumulation areas

  19. Assist site personnel with satellite accumulation areas as necessary

  20. Assist with sampling hazardous or potentially hazardous wastes for subsequent chemical analysis

  21. Oversee transferring hazardous wastes from site locations to the designated accumulation area

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

  • This position is not eligible for relocation benefits.

  • Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and background.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in ES&H-related field, i.e., Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or other sciences. ES&H-related experience may be substituted for educational requirement;

  • 3 years of position-related experience;

  • Good working knowledge of the collection, transportation, accumulation, and disposal of hazardous and other regulated wastes;

  • Good written communication skills;

  • Working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications;

  • Organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required;

  • Position may require travel;

  • Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be US Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current training meeting the requirements of 40 CFR 265.16(a) and 49 CFR 172.704(a) a plus.
