Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a visionary and dynamic Pennsylvania Transportation Business Unit Leader with the primary responsibility to lead and grow the Transportation business in the greater Pennsylvania area. This is the key position for our Pennsylvania area transportation group and you will be joining a team of highly successful transportation professionals with exceptional knowledge and experience with the industry. This is a career opportunity that encompasses leading a large group with multiple transportation markets including but not limited to surface transportation, construction services, planning, rail, and aviation. The area includes Pennsylvania, Delaware and southern New Jersey. The position is based out of the Philadelphia, PA office but the location is flexible based on the appropriate candidate.

The ideal candidate understands and has a proven track record in driving business fundamentals that include client leadership, business development, financial oversight, design quality, project delivery, and has the ability to convey innovative design thinking and solutions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides leadership and strategic direction for the business line within the area

  • Serves as AECOM’s industry leader in the business line and collaborates with peers in other geographies to leverage technical expertise, ensure client satisfaction and implement best practices

  • Develops strategic plan to drive strategy, growth, backlog and sales in defined market sectors and end markets across the geography

  • Manages BD resources and budget to deliver acceptable return on BD investment

  • Builds relationships with key clients, funding sources, industry organizations, teaming partners, and stakeholders to identify opportunities and grow the business

  • Serves as a member of Pennsylvania Area Senior Leadership Team, focused on optimizing the overall performance of the area and region; collaborates with Market Sector Leaders and Account Managers

  • Coordinates and collaborates with other area business line leaders to maximize cross-selling and to offer integrated services to global, geography-wide and region clients

  • Defines commercial terms and mitigates risks during the pursuit process

  • Develops key industry relationships, promotes technical practices, innovation, sharing and knowledge management

  • Attracts, develops and retains key staff and prominent technical specialists to strengthen brand and performance

  • Plays a role in employee engagement, development and retention, quality and safety. Metrics include voluntary turnover rate and recordable incidents

  • Understand, Manage, and Attain Performance Metrics:

  • Primary: Bookings, NSR, GOI, EBITA and Net Promoter Score

  • Other: Book-to-burn, backlog growth, SNB conversion, market share, BD ROI, industry leadership

Leadership Goals:

  • Responsible for developing and executing the strategic growth plan for their region, including developing and executing client outreach goals

  • Advocates design excellence and quality – leads the regional strategy in assuring that we are building client relationships, strategically pre-positioning winning and delivering the most important work in the region

  • Together with regional practice leadership, national market sector leaders, builds high performance design teams – soliciting and managing client feedback to align operations and allocate resources according to strategic priorities, recognizes and unleashes the potential of others by providing the needed environment, resources, coaching, experiences and other support, champions an innovative and collaborative culture

  • Champions change – makes the AECOM vision understandable, creates buy-in to the vision by linking day-to-day work to the attainment of the vision, engages and mobilizes others to drive change, reduces organizational ambiguity

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 15+ years of experience that includes three (3) to five (5) years of successfully running a profit/loss center with a broad understanding of the transportation business

  • Deep knowledge of the regional marketplace with national and global reach, key clients, and industry trends is paramount

  • Experience and skill in strategic business development, client relationships and driving sales and revenue

  • The ability to support and lead business development activities through early client interaction, “scope of work” development, interviews, and on-going client maintenance interface

  • Acted as principal-in-charge of a large/multi-disciplined project /consultant team

  • Together with Regional Leadership, national Market Sector leaders, Principal-In-Charge and Project Directors, established project scopes, work plans and work schedules

  • Successfully delivered projects within the clients’ budget / schedule requirements

  • Successfully delivered project scope and fee, delivering targeted profit to the firm interfaced with project managers on schedules, project review meetings, issues management and client expectations

  • An ability to travel and/or work remotely with teams

  • A strong desire to train, mentor and develop staff to grow their careers and the business

  • DOT Pennsylvania and/or National experience in most major categories

  • Proven ability to provide leadership and strategic direction for a large geographic business line

  • Proven ability to coordinate efforts across regions, business lines and geographies, growth of the business line and development of strategic plans, policies and organizational objectives

  • Proven aptitude for applying full understanding of company procedures, professional standards, policies, and business practices to achieve financial results and business deadlines

  • Valid driver's license

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful track record of winning and fiscally managing transportation contacts throughout the state of Pennsylvania. New Jersey and Delaware experience also a plus

  • New Jersey and Delaware Registered PE a plus

  • 20+ years' combined experience
