Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Architecture and Engineering Department Manager for immediate employment in the Philadelphia, PA office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in the Transportation Facilities design as an Architect or Structural Engineer.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans and directs the Architecture and Engineering department

  • Provides technical and professional guidance for junior staff

  • Supports, oversees and coordinates Architecture and Engineering department staff in technical production activities and in the development of architectural standards and procedures

  • Works with project and department staff to develop technical scopes, man power estimates and design schedules

  • Demonstrates understanding of project delivery requirements, creativity, and foresight, working with multi-disciplinary teams to meet project goals and deliver technical excellence

  • Plans and oversees department work to produce work within agreed upon schedules and budget

  • Directs effective department quality control activities, including but not limited to checking and verification of department work, independent technical peer reviews, constructability reviews and interdisciplinary reviews

  • Maintains realistic projections of workload and staffing requirements to support proactive department management

  • Exercises mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual operations problems, determining operational objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.

  • Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative

  • Initiates and maintains contact with senior level management within the company to communicate department and staff needs in line with AECOM core values and objectives

  • Provides periodic progress reports to senior management

  • Coordinates staffing requirements with Project Managers to maintain department utilization targets while meeting project design needs

  • Works with PMs at developing project work plans and design task protocols

  • Provides leadership to staff and conducts performance management reviews to develop staff

  • Supports business development activities including preparation of technical approach write ups, staffing plans, identification of potential clients and work and meeting with clients

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field

  • 8+ years of experience in facilities related Architecture or Structural Engineering

  • Licensed / Registered Architect or Professional Engineer

  • Extensive experience in developing construction documents for commercial, transportation, aviation, and/or federal projects

  • Strong technical skills related to planning, and architectural design and detailing

  • Experience in collaborating and coordinating work of civil, structural, and MEP disciplines

  • Experience in mentoring and supervising staff architects and interior designers​
