The purpose of this position is to provide railway track and civil engineering specialist role in projects involving feasibility studies, tender designs, problem oriented projects and detailed design and collaborate with other disciplines associated with delivery of railway projects. The incumbent will utilise their technical and industry experience to support project teams to deliver outstanding value to the clients. The incumbent will also be expected to assist in business development activities from project generation phase through to bid preparation and management.
This position reports to the Team Leader – Rail and in turn to the Group Leader Mine-Rail-Port.
Take lead and collaborate with other disciplines, to produce project deliverables to agreed deadlines and standards.
Provide high quality service to internal and/or external customers in all areas of their responsibility.
Effectively manage engineering personnel and resources and project risk whilst acting as discipline lead in a project.
Lead production of technical deliverables in the areas of railway track and civil engineering and undertake review and checking for all disciplines as required.
Promote innovation and ensure the best engineering practices and design tools are applied.
Assist in the development of colleagues by applying high level of technical skill.
Develop and maintain client relationships at the project and local market level and promote business development opportunities.
Assist in bid preparation and bid management for medium and large opportunities as required.
Minimum 8 years’ experience in a railway track and civil engineering roles including related to the existing or proposed freight and/or passenger railways within WA or wider Australia.
Knowledge of railway planning and design especially track alignment, railway earthworks and mass haul and inter-relationship of track and civil disciplines with drainage, geotechnical, structures and associated disciplines. This applies to projects of various stages from feasibility studies to detailed design delivery.
Knowledge of various engineering elements of a fully functional railway, including electrified passenger railway and/or pit to port heavy haul railway will be highly regarded. This includes understanding of interfaces and interactions with key disciplines such as terminals, maintenance facilities, signalling, communication and rolling stock and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated contribution to the delivery of successful railway related projects.
Communication skills – clear written and oral communication, able to communicate at all levels.
Excellent analytic and problem solving skills.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
Membership of a relevant professional institution. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent overseas professional recognition is preferable.
