Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Plumbing Designer for immediate employment for the Orange, CA office. The Plumbing Designer is responsible for performing complex design calculations, sketches, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required by assignment. Designs complete systems (e.g. domestic water systems, waste and vent, storm drainage, natural gas, medical gases, etc.) for many variations of projects. Develops/designs solutions for a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity within plumbing discipline.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Performs more complex design calculations, sketches, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required by assignment / direction by Project Manager

  • Performs coordination at a higher level by reviewing drawings supplied by team engineers and the architects to implements design modifications as necessary

  • Researches code issues as directed by the Project Manager

  • Researches design options and discuss findings with Project Managers

  • Provides in house and third party review at a jurisdictional level

  • Visits jobsites during construction phase and identifying and generally confirming the proper installation of designed systems and equipment

  • Communicates with and utilizing subordinates in the preparation and/or completion of design documents

  • Communicates with building officials regarding code issues impacting system design

  • Reviews project budget cost and preparing opinions of probable construction costs

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's Degree

  • 4+ years of project experience in the Plumbing design industry

  • CPD (or able to obtain within 1 year)

  • Working knowledge of REVIT 2014 and AutoCAD 2014

  • Familiarity with all governing code bodies

  • Experience designing all plumbing systems

  • Proven ability to resolve complex design problems

  • Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing

  • Familiarity with UFC, Design Build delivery, and various market sectors such as Justice, DoD, Leisure, and Healthcare

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

  • Understanding and application of all typical codes such as IPC, UPC, CPC, and UFC

  • Familiar with field conditions and able to participate and/or lead facility assessment teams

  • Knowledge of green building practices and LEED Rating System

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

  • LEED AP Certification is desired

  • Experience with healthcare plumbing systems
