AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level GIS Technician to work onsite with our client in Ocoee, FL. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated software to produce, display, and analyze geographic information

  • Develop and maintain databases, reports, and mapping

  • Create, organize, manipulate, and retrieve GIS data for reporting, analysis, and presentation purposes

  • Perform quality assurance of GIS data and associated graphic components

  • Will use concepts, practices and procedures to extract and provide GIS data to clients

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

  • Create a large number of various map products

  • Apply cartographic techniques to generate high quality presentation graphics and maps

  • Assist in GIS database processing

  • Develop spatial data layers using GIS technology, equipment or systems

  • QA/QC of products created using mapping applications

  • Plan, conduct and coordinate detailed work

  • Work on conventional GIS practices but may handle complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional tools and difficult coordination

  • Devise new approaches to problems and coordinate technical aspects of work

  • Meet with client to discuss topics, such as technical specifications, customized solutions and operational issues

  • Provide technical expertise in GIS technology to users

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, planning, engineering, computer science or related field

  • Basic experience working with ArcGIS and other GIS databases

  • 1 year of demonstrated experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS

  • Strong ArcMap skillset

  • Familiarity with style sheets and labeling within ArcMap

  • Knowledge of cartographic principles, ability to construct a database and/or geodatabase for the compilation and analysis of geographic data

  • Familiarity with raster and vector geospatial data. Must be familiar with handling spatial data and coordinate systems within an ESRI software environment

  • Knowledge of attribute and location queries

  • Proficient in the use of ESRI’s GIS Products

  • Must possess the aptitude and interest in team building to further develop internal GIS capabilities

  • Must have the ability to work at a fast pace in response to sudden, multiple data and map exhibit requests

  • Strong cartographic abilities

  • Must be detail oriented, thorough, well organized, and effectively manage time

  • Demonstrates clear communication with team and office wide staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with GIS production environments

  • ArcGIS Online experience a plus
