Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Tunnel Ventilation Engineer for our Oakland office to work in our Tunnel Ventilation Group, part of AECOM’s National Tunneling Practice. This position will provide an opportunity to work within a specialized group of professionals, in the assessment and development of conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs for major road and rail transportation projects, and related underground or enclosed structures. This position offers the potential for professional advancement and in-house training.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring accuracy of design and contract documents

  • Working within a team environment

  • Any other duties assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or equivalent Engineering degree

  • 2+ years of mechanical design experience

  • Knowledge of CAD software

  • Good verbal and written communications skills and knowledge of common office software

  • Self-motivated and experienced in performing calculations, and delivering quality work

  • Demonstrated abilities to work within project timeframes and budget constraints

Preferred Qualifications

  • Capability in use of Subway Environment Simulation (SES) software

  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory approval processes as pertaining to engineering

  • Experience with mechanical ventilation design

  • Engineer in training (EIT) certificate preferable or willing to obtain the certificate and eventually PE license

  • Capable of designing mechanical ventilation systems using engineering calculations, and preparing design drawings and specifications

  • Experience with ventilation equipment installation

  • Familiarity with fans and controls, and with fire life safety codes and standards (NFPA, AMCA, ASHRAE)

  • Capable of conducting computerized flow analysis
