AECOM has an immediate opportunity in our Power & Industrial team in Oakland California for a Senior Electrical Engineer with High Voltage substation and switchyard experience. This role includes all aspects of engineering design oversight and complex projects. Responsibilities will include the preparation of electrical protection and control and substation physical design, providing leadership to junior engineers, taking ownership of the scope of work, interface and coordination of other disciplines, assisting other functions (environmental, permitting, etc.) of the organization as it relates to substation design.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Develop new or modify existing relay drawings including panel arrangements, single and three line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, connection diagrams, relay panel wiring.
Physical design following industry standards, codes, and client requirements including layouts, sections, details, ground grid design, fence grounding, control building arrangements, raceways
Prepare and/or review technical specifications for equipment items such as power transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, cable, lightning protection, relays, etc.
Review and approve vendor shop drawings
Perform calculations such as grounding studies, short circuit studies, protective coordination, and arc flash analysis
Provide leadership, guidance and direction to less experienced engineering staff.
Conduct and attend client meetings on a regular basis
Conceptual level planning for power infrastructure
Stamped and sealed drawings as the responsible Electrical Engineer Of Record
Attend Factory Acceptance Tests
Participate in contractor coordination and construction support
Participate in some business development activities
Assist with other duties as necessary
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited school / program.
10+ years of experience in power engineering design
Registration as an Electrical Professional Engineer (P.E) in the State Of California
Ability to read, understand and develop electrical drawings (one-line, three-line, protective relaying, elementary diagrams, connection diagrams, schematics, etc.)
Strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as the NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC, etc.
Ability to meet project schedules and work under pressure
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Problem solving skills and work efficiency
Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Willingness to work on electrical engineering projects that may not be directly related to HV Substation Design
Must possess a valid driver's license
CAD / Drafting Experience
Low Voltage experience for industrial facilities not required but will be advantageous
Strong knowledge of the NESC, NEC, and relevant IEEE / ANSI Standards
Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E) in the State Of California is required. However, applicants either registered out of state or working toward obtaining P.E licensure in the near future will also be considered
Experience using power system analysis software such as: SES CDEGS, CYMECAP, SKM, EasyPower
