About the Business Line
AECOM’s Global Support Services (GSS) organization resides within AECOM’s Government business line and is comprised of three divisions — International Development, Operations and Mission Support, and Global Programs. GSS has the international presence, personnel networks and procurement infrastructure to deliver support for any mission, anywhere. We optimize the reliability, availability and sustainability of equipment, logistics systems and facilities for clients around the world. GSS supports the U.S. Government, non-U.S. Governments and industry clients with worldwide program management, planning, design, operations and maintenance, logistics, aviation services, security, international development, environmental and civil engineering and mission and intelligence support.
AECOM is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer 3 to be based in our Oak Ridge, TN project office or on-site at project. The successful candidate will support a process facility project for the Department of Energy (DOE) which will replace many of the aging nuclear capabilities of the United States nuclear program. Primarily, work will be focused on cutting edge nuclear related projects. Generally functions as a member of a design, analysis or review team on more complex assignments or as a lead on less complex assignments. All Design activities will be performed and supervised by a licensed fire protection engineer licensed in the State of Tennessee.
Perform a range of design development, analysis or review tasks under minimal supervision.
Act as a lead on less complex tasks and responsible for a portion of a design or section of an analysis or design review.
Generate complete design specifications of more complex projects.
Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.
Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
Direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
Conduct site visits, experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.
Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
Support development of technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from a four year accredited college or university.
Minimum of Five (5) years relevant engineering experience.
Proficient with 3D design software.
Demonstrated capability in the design and specification of:
Fire suppression system
Fire detection and alarm systems and equipment
Firewalls and barrier systems (including penetration seals, fire doors, and fire and smoke dampers, fire proofing material, etc.)
Proficient in the design tasks to include but not limited to the following:
Hydraulic calculations (using HASS And/or other software)
Sprinkler system design drawings
Fire Hazards Analyses (FHA’s)
Fire modeling calculations
Test plans capable in the development of design documentation including fabrication drawings, engineering analyses, strength of materials calculations, fabrication and procurement specifications and basic knowledge in the selection of materials.
Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US citizens.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance.
- Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a background and pre-employment substance abuse test.
Fire Protection Professional Engineer License preferred
Prior government and/or DOE experience
Familiar with NFPA codes, Building codes, Factory Mutual requirements and guidelines to satisfy Higlly Protected Risk (HPR) consideration
