Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking Surface Sonar Technicians to provide technical support and engineering services to U.S. Navy commands in the Tidewater Virginia area.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Provide in-service engineering/support, onboard and remote fleet technical assistance, CASREP support, troubleshooting, evaluation, and repair, technical assessment/inspection support, modernization/installation, installation and check-out, availability support and engineering technical services for surface SONAR systems, auxiliaries, and associated equipment, subsystems, sensors, and cables both ship/land-based site installations.

  2. Includes support of all variants of the following surface SONAR Systems and associated equipment: AN/SQQ-89(V) On-Board Training (OBT) system; AN/SQR-19(V) Towed Array Systems; and AN/SQQ-28(V) Sonobuoy Receiving Systems.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

  • U.S. Navy surface Sonar technician “A” school and “C” school or equivalent formal classroom or on-the-job training.

  • Minimum of six (6) years general experience with troubleshooting, repair, logistics of sonar or equivalent systems and subsystems.

  • Minimum of six (6) years operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, evaluating, and repair of surface SONAR systems including repair/replacement of sensors, hydrophones, transducers, and cables in both non-pressurized and pressurized dome environments. Systems include: AN/SQR-19, AN/SQQ-28 and AN/SQQ-89.

  • Must be able to operate required electronic support and test equipment.

  • Capable of using and reading technical operation and maintenance documentation and manuals, blueprints, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and data tables.

  • A thorough knowledge of technical publications related to Navy surface ship combat and/or electronic systems.

  • Ability to utilize computers, and a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc., to compile information for reports and programmatic files, etc.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.

  • Must have active SECRET security clearance.

  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Associates of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Programming, Information Technology, Electronics/Electronics Technology, or other technical field is a plus
