Job Summary

The Design, Planning and Economics group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Federal Planner for immediate employment in the Norfolk, VA office. The project planner will serve on multi-disciplinary planning projects for mainly military installations and federal agencies. As part of the project team, the planner will develop creative and innovation solutions to address the Federal Government’s issues.

The Design, Planning and Economics studio, part of the Building + Places business line, is dedicated to excellence and integrated design solutions. The project planner will:

  • Be responsible for all project tasks included in the task order including schedule, data collection and analysis, workshop preparation, meeting facilitation, concept development, report writing and layout, graphics development, etc.

  • Contribute to and manage the preparation of master plans and other real property planning products

  • Coordinate project resources, staffing, and task management

  • Manage client’s communications, expectations and requests consistently

  • Communicate effectively with project team and provide clear guidance

  • Ensure quality of reports and documents developed meets guidelines

  • Mentor staff to assist in their professional growth

  • Assist with preparation of proposals for planning projects

  • Contribute to client relationships and business development efforts

  • Introduce innovative ideas or processes to streamline project efforts

  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility with projects and assignments

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree in urban and regional planning or related field

  • 5+ years' of related work experience

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

  • Must have project management skills and experience managing a project team

  • Excellent communication skills with clients and project teams

  • Proficient at public speaking, presentation, and facilitation skills

  • Positive outlook and can-do attitude approach to projects and teamwork

  • Exceptional writing, research, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to balance priorities

  • Efficient and organized planner with an attention for detail

  • Ability to work independently as well as lead multi-disciplinary teams

  • Apt at developing creative and innovative graphics and project layouts

  • Flexible to adapt to evolving project requirements and client requests

  • Proficient with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Sketchup Pro, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active DOD Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one

  • AICP certification (or certification track) preferred

  • LEED certification (or certification track) preferred

  • Knowledge of military installation/real property planning or military experience a plus
