Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a Database Engineer to provide technical service to a government customer at our AECOM office in Norfolk, VA.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the requirements, definitions, design, development, testing, and documentation of database systems.

  2. Analyze web application requirements, code, and documentation for database support and provide recommendations for improvements.

  3. Act as the primary control point for all database design requirements and modifications.

  4. Lead the analysis, design, and development of large-scale database projects, usually involving naval applications.

  5. Prepare database requirements, design, code, and documentation.

  6. Perform database tuning to optimize and homogenize database performance.

  7. Develop plans for detailed analysis of database / software program code, documentation, and output to ensure validity, consistency, and conformance to applicable standards.

  8. Provide management and leadership of database development for a given project with overall responsibility for its technical performance.

  9. Interface with the customer to implement system integrations with other software projects, and coordinate system upgrades.

  10. Comply with hardware and software systems standards and procedures.

  11. Perform evaluations in the development, design, implementation, and maintenance of complex database designs.

  12. Work closely with the Software Development Team to coordinate the database with the software application.

  13. Demonstrate a command of database technologies (i.e., SQL, Oracle, MySQL, etc.).

  14. Perform all other position related duties as requested or assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Computer Information Technology or equivalent,

  • Eight years total experience, to include: software Design, Development, and Test and Evaluation.

  • Five years’ experience and proficient programming with C#, C++, Java, or other object oriented programming languages.

  • Four years’ experience should include: Database development, Web page design, development and using .NET tools and .net Integrated Development Environment tools,, SQL Server 2000 (or later), and HTML editor tools

  • Proficient in TFS, Visual Studios, SSDT, MS Sequel Service Manager, and MS Excel.

  • The following certifications are required: Security+ and 70-461 Querying Microsoft SQL Server (or equivalent).

  • Will be required to complete the following certification or other designated approved certification within one and a half years after assuming duties: Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP).

  • Must be able to multi-task and provide great attention to detail on a demanding project.

  • Must be flexible and adaptable to changing software requirements and work priorities.

  • Acuity for investigating, troubleshooting, and designing solutions to problems in the operational database.

  • Proficient at Data Normalization.

  • Proficient in Sequel programming and querying skills.

  • Position may require travel.

  • Position requires an Active Secret DoD Security Clearance
