About the Business Line
Our talented experts are dedicated to managing the complexity inherent in construction projects, catering to each client’s unique needs. We provide services such as program management, construction management and owner’s representation to our clients around the globe.
The Vice President, Communications for AECOM’s Construction Services group will proactively build, implement and measure high-impact internal and external communication plans to advance the company’s and the CS group’s key global initiatives.
Based in New York City and reporting to the First VP of Strategy and Communications, activities will include media relations, crisis communications, awards, affiliations, employee engagement, digital services and integration activities across CS. Will also collaborate with Enterprise Communications and Marketing Communications teams across the organization, as well as cross-functionally with other Construction Services departments (e.g., Marketing, Legal and Human Resources).
The successful candidate will be an accomplished communications leader and solutions-oriented project manager with proven record of success whose style must add value to the organization.
Provide leadership through the use of communications to support the vision, values and goals of AECOM and Construction Services
Effectively build relationships to serve as an advisor and partner to business leaders and their teams
Enhance brand awareness and visibility through oversight of Construction Services media relations and crisis communications in close collaboration with public affairs consultant and Enterprise Communications
In partnership with Marketing, develop targeted campaigns including speaking engagements, bylined articles, presentations, media pitches and key messages/talking points
Working closely with Human Resources and Leadership, drive employee engagement through internal communications channels including: newsletters, intranet platforms, leadership messages, videos, and digital/print campaigns
Create digital strategies to promote Construction Services externally and internally through websites, intranet platforms and social media
Produce timely and succinct communications to effectively manage change regarding key issues and project manage activities to further critical initiatives (e.g., integration, systems changes, etc.)
Serve on Enterprise Communications expanded Leadership Team, collaborating with Communications peers in global markets to align activities and provide support
This is a management position for an individual with a proven track record in strategic communications development and execution. This individual must be comfortable working in a matrix organization and successfully exhibit strong influencing skills, political astuteness and business acumen so as to be seen as a trusted adviser to their internal and external partners. Minimum requirements include:
Experience and interest in the construction, architecture and/or engineering industry preferred
Ten or more years corporate and/or public affairs communications experience (or comparable news media experience) within agency and/or corporate environments with a strong emphasis on executive and corporate writing
The successful candidate will also demonstrate the following:
Communication and Communications Management
Expertise: A thorough understanding of both internal and external communications with a fluency in the most current communications mediums and how these media need to be linked as part of a comprehensive communications platform to create a differentiated brand
Planning and Execution: Ability to evaluate opportunities, define targets and overall communications architecture, design plans that achieve those targets and manage the successful execution of those plans
Writing: Strong writing skills, able to write in a variety of styles and for a variety of media; proven experience in business to business communication; strong background in speechwriting for campaigns, public policy and corporate communications.
Media Relations: Experience working with news media including business and trade journalists working across print, broadcast and online channels; demonstrated ability to develop and pitch compelling stories that hit the mark with journalists
Leadership and Business Acumen
Project Management: Strong, solutions-oriented project and change management skills – the ability to organize people, tools and technologies and orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish desired results
Focus and Conscientiousness: Knows when to appropriately make executive decisions and when to collaborate and make a consensus decision
Business Acumen: Solid business acumen and analytical skills, including an understanding of key financial metrics relevant to a publicly-traded, Fortune 500 firm
Working and Management Style: Collaborative and energetic working style; skilled at diplomacy and gaining appreciation of all perspectives and then reaching alignment; motivates/inspires others at all levels and with diverse personalities
Creative Leadership: Highly innovative; champions breakthrough ideas and initiatives
People Management: Recruits and promotes the best people available; assesses resource needs and plans for future needs
Experience within the construction industry
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, PR or related discipline; Master’s degree preferred
