Job Summary

AECOM has an opening for a New York Metro Safety Health & Environment (SH&E) Manager to manage the AECOM Safety For Life SH&E Program with the flexibility to work out of any of our AECOM office locations within New York City, Northern Jersey, or Upstate New York. The SH&E position reports to the Regional Chief Executive, the Northeast Region SH&E Manager and the Vice President of SH&E, DCS Americas.

The NY Metro Area SH&E Manager will provide technical support and be considered the resident expert regarding safety, health, and the environment. The Area SH&E Manager will provide guidance to leadership in the Area and support SH&E Representatives in each of the Area offices.

Duties will include hazard assessments and mitigation planning; safety training delivery and program management; supporting compliance with AECOM policies and procedures; assessing (sub)contractor SH&E performance and qualifications; project/program SH&E auditing; input on proposals; project/ program SH&E oversight; implementing behavioral based safety programs; accident/incident investigation; management of Core Value Metrics and leading indicator measurements; practicing prevention through design and other proactive safety management system elements. The position will require support of SH&E representatives and associated monthly calls, mentoring and support. The position will also entail approximately 25% of the time directly supporting client needs for SH&E including SH&E work plan development, site/facility SH&E auditing, technical evaluations, incident investigations, etc.

The position will require support of regional initiatives in liaison with Regional Executives for development and implementation of the Safety For Life AECOM safety, health, and environment (SH&E) program. Duties further include:

  • Support and develop SH&E representatives and project/program level SH&E professionals

  • Perform a leadership role in incident investigation, case management, and internal management

  • Identify deficiencies or areas needing loss control or compliance attention and arranges for corrective measures

  • Develop and/or approves health and safety plans for regional managers

  • Communicate audit/inspection results to management and ensures that follow-up inspections are performed to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and regulations

  • Support development and continuous improvement of the Safety For Life Integrated Management System

  • Present internally and externally on the AECOM Safety For Life Program, core value metrics tracking, training tracking, statistics generation, etc.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health, Safety, and/or Environment or related Engineering technical discipline

  • 8+ years of experience directly managing an SH&E program as an SH&E manager is required

  • Demonstrative regulatory knowledge and expertise regarding US OSHA, US EPA USACE, DOT and applicable SH&E regulations

  • Experience working in and/or supporting SH&E programs in the following is expected: General construction, transportation design/construction, water/waste water treatment design/construction, vertical construction, healthcare and education, chemical manufacturing, environmental management and remediation, health sciences including medical monitoring, fit for duty, and return to work programs, demolition, design-build-operate, engineer- procure- construct- maintain project delivery methods

  • Able to contribute to AECOM’s Americas SH&E program supporting the development of policies and procedures, SH&E communications, rewards and recognition programs and SH&E performance assessments

  • Travel with overnight stays will be required and may account for >50% of time

  • Valid driver's license required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Registered Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent preferred

  • Advanced Degree in SH&E related field preferred

  • 10+ years' experience preferred
