Job Summary

AECOM has an opening for a Project Accountant who will be responsible for the financial administration of multiple projects of varying sizes for various business lines and groups of project managers. They will also be the finance representative on the project team.

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Interface regularly with project management and project team

  • Assist Project Manager with project setup and closeout

  • Monitor projects for contract compliance

  • Insure all incurred cost is reflected accurately and in a timely fashion on the project

  • Monitor project performance and key indicators

  • Ensure that the financial impact of change orders are reflected correctly

  • Monitor & analyze revenue and unbilled balances to ensure proper revenue recognition; be able to explain billing in excess of revenue (BIEE)

  • Assist project manager with the preparation and update of Estimate at Completion (EAC) for all projects

  • Ensure that the current budget reflects original as-sold contract plus all client approved changes

  • Participate in project reviews; ensure all risks, bonuses and penalties associated with project performance are quantified reflected and reported correctly

  • Assist in the preparation of the project risk analysis and RARs

  • Prepare and monitor project cash flow

  • Perform project analysis and prepare reports upon request for management review

  • Understand the commercial and billing requirements of the projects

  • Support the billing team, coordinating and assisting with complex billing issues

  • Audit support, when required

  • Special projects

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent experience

  • 3+ years of related experience in Project Accounting or Finance, supporting Project Managers or Project teams

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Strong analytical, written and verbal skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels

  • Detail-oriented

  • Ability to see the “big picture”

  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize tasks accordingly

  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related experience in Project Accounting or Finance, supporting Project Managers or Project teams

  • Architecture/Engineering industry experience strong preferred

  • Experience with project costing methodologies for project pursuits and proposals a plus

  • Oracle experience strongly preferred
