Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Performance Design Engineer to join the High Performance Buildings team in New York, NY. The team provides low energy design leadership and consulting on sustainable buildings and communities projects to both internal and external clients. Our projects range from the design of net zero buildings through the sustainable planning of major global eco-cities.

AECOM is a unique, multidisciplinary practice that succeeds through the individual and collaborative skills of its people. Ideally we're looking for a mechanical engineer or someone with a background in energy systems or low carbon infrastructure. The person should be able to understand sustainable design concepts and building systems, be comfortable working at a macro level, and have the personal initiative to work independently and with other members of a multi-disciplinary team.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Development of community-level energy strategies, looking at, but not limited to: energy conservation, renewable energy, district energy, and micro grids

  • Technical assessment of building energy demand and potential energy supply strategies using a combination of energy modeling, proprietary analysis tools, and the development of bespoke tools

  • Preparing and presenting results and professional recommendations, in report or presentation format, to clients and teams

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Planning or related field with strong technical skills

  • 2+ years' experience of work in the sustainable design sector

  • Experience and knowledge of building energy simulation using dynamic thermal modeling software and other industry standard packages (e.g. IES, EnergyPlus, eQuest and EnergyPro)

  • Strong verbal, graphical, and written communication skills

  • Strong numerical skills including the ability to work within Microsoft excel

  • Willingness and ability to travel
